some people here are really trying to say weed is a bad thing. I just really want to say to you go ahead and try to smoke it. You just don't know what you're talking about. The reason that you never use it because you think it alters your mind, if you smoke it you will see that it really doesn't.
I'll list some effects of weed.
-relaxation, relieve of stress
-you'll get more creative, me and my friends we sometimes make a little story just out of nothing we all take characters and do some crazy stuff (like once we pretended we were gangsters and we were doing driveby's with supersoakers on regular people wich included a cop car (they didn't mind:P))
-your sense get's stronger: music sounds great really when your high you can feel the music, food tastes like your eating little pieces of heaven, and sex feels sooo damn good (only have sex when your high, if your stoned you'll be to tired for sex:P)
and thats why i like to smoke weed because it's fun and for me also a social happening because I always smoke with friends and we always have a lot of fun when high.
Weed also hase some sideeffects like: you can get really hungry, you can get really tired (depends on how tired you already are and there are types of weed that will keep you energetic, also your short term memory is really bad while stoned, also if you overdose you can get panic attacks.
the good thing is that you can't die from weed because the THC get's stored in your fat and is broken down really slow, alcohol gets broken down by the liver and that isn't healthy for your liver.
