from what i can see, the first one, as the only difference is 1000MHz

that MIGHT be a big difference, but idk

The second is definetly the better one but for the price difference I would go for the Opi.

does HT stand for hyper threading? under where it said HT 1000Mhz and 2000Mhz

also any other significant difference

Will it blend?

i wouldnt go for either - unless u particularly want a 939 cpu - they dont support DDR2 RAM as far as i am aware

I used to have a 4400 X2 939 and they replaced it with a new version that could use ddr2 - cant remember what the suffix was tho

FX-60 has an unlocked multiplier, instead of upping up the frequency, just increment the multiplier... Few kinks like that are different...

HT stands for Hyper Transport, basically AMDs replacement for the FSB, Intel will be loosing there FSB later this year or next year.
I would get the Opteron if you are setting up a server, get the FX if you want to do any gaming... the motherboard you will pick will probably be the deciding factor, see if you can get a board that supports DDR3

How can those processors support DDR3? They're both Skt 939 Processors.

Hypertransport.
Hyperthreading is HTT.

I'd definately go for the Opty.

Opty is the better buy, but the FX-60 is the better processor.

definitely the opty. Usually way better overclockers and much cheaper

how so? Usually the optys are the higher quality ones (seeing as they are used under tough conditions in servers). The only advantage is the unlocked multi which doesn't really help with overclocking anyhow

opty all the way they are so good at oc'ing research the MB as well, have a look at some of the DFi mobo's or possibly epox. Try this website they are mostly a friendly bunch and could help you out with the choice of mother board.

Thts what the shops will be buying individual CPU's in 1000 batches. Expect it to be a bit higher.

Expect it to be about $280. Not that much of a difference.

Just use this memory, wich is a hell of alot better than DDR2  http://tinyurl.com/3bod4j
and yes, they will be making 939 boards that support DDR3

You can overclock the shit out of an FX chip because of the unlocked multis,no other AMD has that feature, the rest are all limited.

urgh ..... NO?

you can still OC all other procs by increasing the "FSB". How do you think my opty 170 (stock 2.0 GHz) runs at 3.1 GHz? Optys are usually the better OCers

Generally speaking, the Opteron cores are highly overclockable but the FX-60 boasts that it is one of the most powerful cores in the range.

Optys are overclockers paradise. But what are those prices? A FX60 is only 169€, a Opteron180 is 159€ and the almighty Opteron154 is 199€ over here

@max: yours run on 3.1GHz?! Just wow.

Anyways I´d go for the FX60 (because I dont dare overclocking)!

well I am pumping a fair bit of voltage though it: 1.6V. 1.65V will even push it to 3.2GHz but my Big typhoon fails at cooling those speeds. That would be a definite case for water cooling/phase change/TEC/...  3.1 is the highest stable OC that will say somewhat cool.  Usually I have mine at 2.6 GHz @ stock (1.35) volts
