Developments that flew (pardon the pun) in the face of common thought, as well as the capricious attitudes of the more "malleable" sciences ("yeah, I'm just a doctor, but prozac is a great idea so here's a prescription!") and the pervasiveness of other short-lived pop and junk sciences undermine public faith in the irrefutability of contemporary scientific consensus.
