Help anyone? I got a desktop problem

I just tried to change my desktop background, but I soon found out that is impossible. When I right click the picture and choose: "set as desktop background", nothing happens. So, I go to the display properties only to find that I am locked out of my pictures completley; I can even use the scroll bar. All I can do is change the background color. Any help will be much appreciated (karma to whorever fixes it )

Hmm... Sounds like some kind of glitch.
Have you restarted?
When did this happen, did you do anything unordinary recently?

I think it might be a virus, but nothing else is wrong. Yes, ive restarted a few times, but to no avail

Are you logged in as user or do you have administrative rights?

does your computer have several different users?
are you the administrator?
i know that at the computers at my school, they lock things like that
you have to be an administrator and unlock them somehow, probably some option
try checking under administration tools

I once fixed a computer that had a 'blue screen' for a wallpaper. I thought it was a joke when I first saw it, until I realised it was chock-full of spywarez.

Has your wallpaper inexplicably changed? If so that may be locking you out.

If you have XP Pro, you could also tamper with group policy. Home can be done but indirectly through the Registry.

Yeah I checked a few min ago, my account is the admin. There are only 2 btw and the other one is never used.
