I'm just waiting for a major catastrophe to take place.  I hear yellowstone's super volcanoe is due for eruption anytime soon which should wipe out a 300km radius within minutes (these ones will be burnt to a crisp), the rest of the US in days and lucky last me here in Oz in about 21 days (We will suffocate from a sulpluric atmosphere and vocanic dust choking our lungs).  Should be fun and I might even throw a party to celebrate the rebirth of a new species.  The dinosaurs couldn't be that dumb as they lasted well over a million years to our miniscure presence.  THe ice age killed them as we know.

Yes, I do care about the enviroment but 6 billion on this planet just can't be justified anymore, especially with the modern era of fossil fuels being our most sort after comodity to live the style of life we do.

Solution?   Stop screwing around and having babies cos your offspring account to the ever growing over population of this planet.
And hence this causes economic collapse across the world as a stressed, shrinking working class has to take care of a huge, ever-growing aging population.

Global warming is something that is occurring naturally, but we have the bad luck for the idiots of our world to decide to take advantage of this natural occurance and say that it is our fault, and therefore we must weaken ourselves.  Nah.

Reminds me of watching a history channel show about an ancient lake bed.  Well what happened to it?  Why isn't it a lake anymore?  I guess there must have been suv's way back then.

It's not going to happen for hundreds or even hundreds of thousands of years from what I have read. Even then the signs would be very obvious decades before it happens.

For temperature? Several hundred million years, up to a few billion (read: isotope geochemistry, though they don't refer to oxygen-oxygen, which was what I was thinking of. Hmm.)

About 650k years.
That's ice cores. Isotope geochem gives us pretty much similar data.

In any case, ice cores rely on isotope geochem to get their climate data. It's just that ice cores provide a good source for relatively recent data.

Ridiculous, the world is perfectly fine and it is only human arrogance to think we impact as much as we do. Global Warming is just a tool used by the ignorant to keep people ignorant. Blame corporations, blame governments, blame the poor FUCK YOU. Instead of crying about 1 degree lets build some coal power plants for Africa so they can get out of the fucking dark ages. So lets pour it on so my grand kids can have the technology and know how to fix some stupid climate change issues because no one else is smart enough to fix it.

When I am 80 I am going to look back at this time and be really angry. So angry that I am going to hop in my time machine and kick Al Gore in the balls every birthday after his fifth for wasting everyones fucking time. I COULD HAVE HAD A FLYING CAR GORE, A FLYING FUCKING CAR.

If you really do manage to get a time machine, I highly suggest going back about 50,000 years or so and killing all the cave people.  That would do far more good than anything else you could do with a time machine.

global warming is a natural thing, it has happened before it will happen again.

nothing we can do to stop it, slow it down maybe but not stop.

my last geo professor told me that this is not somthing new to the earth it is recycling it self.

no big deal

Now it's around 30-40 degrees.
One Christmas Day in Cleveland, Ohio it was 70 degrees.

The next year on Christmas, it was -20 degrees.

And this was many many years ago.

So using that as an indicator is false IMO.
haha, it was 65 degrees farenheight in chicago on new years eve last year, then 20 degrees in april.  The midwest has such wild temperature swings that you can never use it as a basis for an argument.

It's 65 today, gonna be 90 tomorrow...  92 monday... 95 tuesday...
Yea, hes right, same way in st.louis, its crazy.

Interesting. The global warming sceptics are the ones who are trying to keep people ignorant IMO. They are the ones going "don't worry about it, nothing's happening, ignorance is bliss". They are the ones advocating NO change in technology - NO advances for anyone. They are the ones who are the ones stamping all over the people in Africa. They are the ones who almost fucked the whole planet over by claiming the ozone hole didn't exist.

Your argument and your sheer arrogance and insensitivity disgust me.

Hmm... looking through that site, they have nothing but anti-GW articles. And they only have 5. Pretty poor effort IMO.

OK.

Let's set the record straight.

There is a natural cycle in which this (gw) occurs - true. This (or, rather, these) cycle are known as the Milankovitch cycle. There are three of them - periodic variations in earth's climate caused by variations in the earth's orbit around the sun, it's tilt and it's axis.

The shortest of these cycles (can't remember which one it is) is 20 000 years. How a 20000 year cycle can have a major impact (yes, it has had an impact. Several species have already become extinct due to it, e.g. the golden toad) within 30 years (29, to be exact. Since sulfur aerosols were phased out) is beyond me.

Volcanism is a major contributor to CO2 levels, true. But they are not overall very good warmers. In fact, they are much better global COOLERS than global warmers (have none of you heard of volcanic winter?, due to the levels of SO's they produce. In any case...

Solar variation only has an impact if the light actually reaches the surface. The amount of sunlight could double, but if only half of it reaches the surface we wouldn't notice a thing (well, not really, but you get the general idea, right?) But the amount of light has decreased - quite alarmingly. This poses other problems, but they aren't related to the debate at hand.

Will quote-update if necessary.

what about the guy who says that its primarily because of solar activity?  No one ever links to him, and he presents a pretty strong argument against humans causing global warming.  Can't remember his name though, i'll look it up later
