Same deal. It undermines your UK rating system. If they are banning what they deam inappropriate, just nix the ratings system and call it communism.
But your original point is void, since there have been loads of games with an 18 rating in the UK. Dreamweb was the first I can remember.
SO in UK:
15=US's "M" rating?
Or 18= US's "M" rating?

I would believe UK's 18R is the same as US's "A" rating.
You'd be wrong. There is no real equivalency.

18R is specifically for pron. It would not be used for a violent game or film or anything that isn't porn.

UK has porn videogames?

Overall, I say it was wrong to ban it, but honestly the first manhunt sucked. Funny Rockstar gets another influx of free publicity with a new game coming out.

/waits for music ban, movie bans, and other bans on things deemed "inappropriate" in developed nations.

f'n conservatives.

What is the point of a game like that anyway?

No porn videogames (actually, who am I kidding, there probably are). Game ratings in the UK are done by the bbfc (British Board of Film Classification), who suprisingly also do the ratings for films. The ratings system is the same for films and games. Typically the bbfc are quite leniant compared with American censors (so far as film is concerned at least), which is why I was quite suprised by this.

And you're right. The first Manhunt did suck.

I'm not sure if I'm correct on this but in the US is it not up to the film-maker/distributor whether they want to submit a film for certification from the MPAA or not? If you do not submit a film for certification it precludes your movie from being screened in certain cinema chains and awards etc. I recall someone saying that the MPAA have never actually banned a film before but are notorious for demanding cuts and so on.

Perhaps an American film buff can clarify?

There we go guys.

Manhunt 2 has been officially banned from consoles. Sony and Nintendo have actively refused to have that game be played on their consoles.  So have MS; in a more discreet manner.

My thoughts on this are a bit mixed. I have played Manhunt 1, and I have to be honest...it's brutal. More than brutal, it makes you do disgusting things. Although I disagree a complete banning, I think it has to be controlled more than any other game. The point of the game is disgusting. Stalk and kill: brutally.

It was a good game, very well done and well thought of. But if this is what the game producers are coming to, then they need to rethink their views on violence. Manhunt took one step over the border and was slated for it. Now Manhunt 2 just got the shock of their lives.

Where do you stand on the great video game debate? Should games promoting violence, or mimicking real life tragedy be banned, or are they no worse than film and TV?
I think that video games shouldn't be banned for being too violent. It's the parents fault for not heeding the rating on the video game. However, even though I think they shouldn't be banned, games that mimick real life tragedy should be considered in banning of them.

The problem does not lie in violent videogames, the problem lies in shitty parenting. Most parent nowadays are fucking dumbasses with no common sense and have no spine. If a game looks ridiculously violent for a five year old, don't buy the game for the five year old. Make your own decisions and don't be so fucking weak. This again comes back to what I've always said, there is a complete lack of responsibility these days. Everyone apparently needs their hands held at all times.

Banning games is totally wrong in my opinion.

The amazing part of it all is that these games are just portraying parts of human society that the majority think is disgusting and they would rather bury their heads in the sand about these topics than have to confront them head on.

Killings in the most gruesome manner happen all the time but alot of ppl chose to ignore this and many other bad topics for their own peace of mind.

P.S. I am from Australia and we don't even have an 18+ rating, the max is MA15+ anything worse gets instantly denied classification.

Ec - Early Childhood
E - Everyone
Now theres E-10 - Everyone 10+
There Used to be K-A - Kids to Adult (Old E)
T - Teen 13+

I think it's stupid to be honest
if people played this and decided to try and carry out the activities carried out in that game in real life(I think a couple of people were thought to have done this after playing the first manhunt), it's not the fault of the game in my opinion.  Those kind of people have mental problems in the first place, and there are plenty of films or books that aren't banned that would cause them to do the same, Hostel perhaps.

and it's a bit of a shame really, it got a good review: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=166229

still, so long as gta 4 will be allowed...
