Do they help that much?
Anything to help disperse heat in already hot computer cases is a huge help. Heat kills computers.
yes.
I actually have 4 GBs of ddr2 ram with heat sinks... it helps but this neat little crab thing really cools everything down

Plus it has enough flashing lights to send an epileptic into a seizure

I have some for my ram..
Dunno how well they work because I've never had my computer running with them off.

A heatsink is this. Not what you are linking him to.CommieChipmunk wrote:

are we talking heatsinks (on the side) or heatpipes (on top)?
The original OP was about heat sinks, but then it drifted to fans and then heat pipesCommieChipmunk wrote:

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
Heatsinks on RAM are verging on being essential.
lol. Yeah. I just got the OCZ Platinum, with silver heatsinks. It does make a difference now.Bertster7 wrote:

You should see my old RAM...its from hong kong and doesnt even have a name on it.

i wish i could, but i think that because all 4 sticks are so close together that it wouldnt really work...
Depends on the ram and your airflow. I've heard stories of ramsinks actually heating up the ram.
IMO, it depends - if you're overclocking the RAM at all, yep, they're essential.
If you're running stock speeds and the rest of your cooling solutions are good, you shouldn't need them.
They might be a sensible precaution on high-end systems running high-end high-speed ram, even at stock speeds.
