Dez, I've had these exact same feelings all of my life. Unfortunately, they haven't subsided the least bit. The only difference is that now at age 32 I have years of practice at throwing up defense mechanisms to distract myself. The idea of stopping is terrifying even though, like Cougar said, you're dead and won't know the difference.

As a teen I kept having the feeling someone was coming up behind me to stab me or more often shoot me with a shotgun! Was weird but went away. When a kid/teenager lots more worried about death issues when adults - so to answer your question.... it will almost defo go away before your 18.

No - they aren't.

Well not death. Most are (would be ) afraid of the process as its often painful and/or long. Thats why I'd rather die young and quick

Death reminds me not to waste a single day. Spend less time worrying and more time living. Enjoy every moment.

I believe in fate to some extent. I don't think that people who have something to accomplish can just die.

Just my thoughts.

Ive always thought of death as something exciting, how could one possibly surmise what death is like? For all you know heaven does exist, and there are angels up there pitying our sorry lives on earth.

Im 'dieing' to find out.

The fear of death, never truely leaves anyone, wether you let it get to you is the real question.

I'm personally not afraid of death itself, but ways of dying.

For example, I'm afraid of burning to death.  Suffocating.  Drowning.

Are you afraid of death itself, or causes of death?

I'm not so much afraid of dieing as I am of dieing without having done something to validate my existence.

Im not afraid of death but thats because I know there is a God in Heaven. Saying that its foolish to believe in God is retarded.
I will definitly have to disagree with you my friend.
Lol.  Nice going Dezert.  Once again your subtle hate of religion is about to spark a flame war.

Live while you can, thats the best advice I can give.. you can get cancer from everyting, you can spend your life playing it safe and then get hit by lightning or a car.. live life while you can, dont worry too much, or that time will have been wasted. Do the things you enjoy, be nice to people.. thats my philosophy.

I've been there too after I lost a handful relatives and close friends over a short period of time. I try not to think about it that much now. But the one thing that still haunts me about this, is the two grandparents I have left (which I'm very close to - I've spend a lot of my childhood on their farm). I'm afraid of the day they die. And that I have no fancy philosophy to deal with..

What really picks your mind, is that when you are dead - it's eternity. I mean, you're lifetime is a dot on a piece of paper in a skyscraper (simile!)

I'm 44 and if I died tomorrow I'd figure I'd had a good run.

But imagine being 80! By that time I'll be so fed up with the human race I'll be glad to die. Its very easy to understand when you hear of these old couples going out in a suicide pact...they've had enough! Who'd blame them?

And all this shit about leaving a legacy or being remembered for some achievement - sure, it would be nice, but who really gives a rats?

For some, dieing can be a blessing.

I'm on the fence really.  I still have a good time with life, but I'm also ready to go.  The way it's been, I have way more bad shit happen than good.   So, im not all emo, but hey, enough is enough, and if its time, just fine by me.

I'm 15 and an Atheist like you (you said you were in another thread, I remember).

I think about it CONSTANTLY while lying in bed. I just think to myself that's why I'm going to work hard while i'm young so I can have a good life when I'm in my 20's and 30's. I'm going to live life to the fullest and on the edge and have as much fun as I can. I'm also going to help other people by donating frequently to charities, that way when I'm on my death bed I'll know I not only made my life well, but other people's lives as well.

Being afraid of death is pointless. You can be sitting in your toilet and a plane crashes into your house. When its your day its your day and you cant escape that.

I'm not. And by the time I am old enough to die from old age (hopefully I don't get cancer or something before then) I will probably be too sick of life to even care.
