Hey, yeah, I know, use the search you idiot, but I cant be arsed to do so....

So, here´s my question.

As I´m planing to upgrade my good old 4th system which has a AMD64 3200+, a Gigabyte S.939 AGP8x MoBo etc etc. I´m curious if Nvidia will release any 8*** series cards for the AGP8x interface. Or if I have to go for a 7950GT 512MB card, which has no DX 10.0 features for upcoming games like QWET etc etc.

No, I dont want to upgrade to PCI-E, why? Because I already have three uptodate uberrigs.

*EDIT err

anyways, theres no point wasting money on a 8000 series card if any come out for AGP

That CPU cant even feed enough data to a x1950, it'd fail miserably with an 8800, wouldn't be worth buying even if they did come out (which they won't, nVidia abandoned AGP).

why? Just because the standard is PCI-E in the meantime? I dont think so. I rather spend 400-500€ for a AGP8x, then 600-700€ for a PCI-E Mobo and a PCI-E GPU.

But it feeds enough for an 7900GS 512MB, an 7800GS AGP 256MB, an x1950GT AGP 512MB and an x1950PRO 512MB. Why shouldnt it feed enough for a serie 8***?!

One of my other systms has a socket 939 AMD 4000+ and two 8800Ultras in it, and I cant complain about any fps loss in any games. And compared to my C2D 6800EE with two 8800GTX it´s no major diffrence at all!

Simply going by past experience, my 3200 with a x1950 Pro I got 45FPS ish, now I'm on a C2D with the same x1950 (AGP one I might add) I'm steady on 95-100FPS, its a chronic bottleneck, kinda negagtes any upgrade.

EDIT: I should add mine was a 32bit 3200+, but the performance difference is 0.

well, in 2142 1600x1200 my old 64 3200+ and the 7900GS done around 80-85 FPS (nothing is overclocked), in BF2 1600x1200 everything maxxed expect AF, AA runs with 90 fps average, so I dont think it´s bottlenecked at all.

Not shitting you.

A 64 3200 will be bottlenecking the 7900GS.

I maxed everything including AF and AA, so that might be where you're getting the FPS gains, either way that's the limit your CPU can chuck out, buying anything newer graphics wise would result in the same frame rates and a diminished bank balance.

EDIT: A 7900GS can sit at 95-100FPS (100 being the highest you can get on BF2 without unlocking the FPS cap) steadily with everything maxed if it's got the right hardware behind it (thats why I'm saying it's at it's limit as it's only managing 80 with AA and AF lowered).

with framerates around 80-90 I dont think so!

Look, compare those systems I´ve got and then tell me something about bottlenecking.

Intel C2d 6800EE, 4096 MB Corsair TwinMX DDR2-1000, 2x8800GTX ->135-150 fps

AMD64 4000+, 4096 MB Corsair TwinMX Cl2, 2x8800Ultra -> 130-140 fps

AMD64 4000+, 2048MB Corsair TwinMX Cl2, 1x7900GTX ->100-115 fps

AMD64 3200+, 4096 Kingston Cl2-5, 1x7900GS ->80-90 fps

sidenote: reso is 1600x1200, the upper two systems are maxxed completely (driver settings, not ingame)

What I don't understand is you have 3 PCs that have to cost at least $1500 - $3500 a piece and you don't want to spend an extra $200 for a mobo upgrade on the older PC?!  That just doesn't make sense.

Otherwise, I highly doubt nVidia (or ATI) will make a DX10 AGP card so if you want DX10 on your 3200+ system, you're gonna have to bite it and upgrade your mobo.  Or just play on one of your other 3 systems, so why even upgrade it if you got a c2d 6800EE system (which should have the 8800 Ultras, not the GTXs)??  If I were you, I'd go ahead and upgrade that crappy 6800EE with a QX6700 or something.  C'mon man, get with the times!!

Yeah, I got your point, and honestly I cant give you a reasonable answer why I want to hang with the old system. It´s  mainly used by my girlfriend for some surfing, chatting etc. But from time to time I want to play BF or upcoming games at home too (when I find some time for playing)

Two systems are in my apartement which is 100km´s away from where I live at the weekend, those are my hardcore rigs which I mainly use for playing and porn downloads during the week

The rig with the 7900GTX is in our studio, to give backup for some short recordings etc. and to play around in breaks.

Hm, seems like I have to get rid of my good old pal then

Nah, about the 6700QX... Not yet, maybe in a month or two. And the Ultra´s didnt fit in the tower of the Intel rig, ja, I know, but Im too lazy!

Ahh, can't you just move one of your gaming rigs from your apartment to your GFs place (home or where ever you are on the weekends)?  Seems that would be the logical answer to me unless you like to LAN up with a friend or something at your apartment during the week or something.

Don't you have 3 BMWs? Why care over this older extra system?

on a second thought, this is the only logical answer. Oh man, I´m getting old.

Yeah I guess I´ll take the Ultra system home (oh no, it will be raped with pink ICQ, MSN stuff and even pink flowers on the case )

You´ve just saved at least 300€ for me
