I own one, btw.

I was wondering what Europeans and non gun nut forums members think. California has some of the harshest gun laws in the country. Yet this is legal. Don't confuse a .22 calibre round with a toy. They actually will penetrate a cinder block wall with sustained automatic fire.

It just isn't mounted on a post. I actually hooked that baby up to my Mini 14 ( it's a gattling crank that pulls the trigger four times per second), and let me tell you that it was scary.

Now, imagine a Quad barrel.

.22 calibre rifles are toys, eh?

Then the Russians noted that Chechen snipers were effectively using .22 LR (long rifle, them little bullets kids use to hunt squirrels and rabbits with) weapons. Inside towns and cities, the .22 LR sniper was very effective, especially since the Chechens would improvise a very workable silencer by putting a plastic bottle on the end of the rifle's barrel, with a hole in the bottom of the barrel for the bullet to exit. Using a cheap scope, Chechen snipers were very deadly at ranges of less than a hundred meters. Such ranges were pretty common in built up areas. And since you usually did not hear the shot (to the head or face, of course), you had a hard time finding the shooter. Having suffered from these low tech .22 caliber Chechen snipers for ten years, the Russians have come out with their own professional .22 LR sniper rifle, the SV-99. This is a little heavier (at 8.3 pounds) than your usual .22 LR rifle, but is built for professionals. It has a heavier barrel, a bipod, silencer and scope. It's 39 inches long and can accept five, eight or ten round magazines. There is a compartment in the butt stock for two five round magazines. With the SV-99, at a hundred meters, a skilled shooter can consistently put all rounds in a half inch circle. This is a specialist weapon, most likely used by commandos. But any trained sniper can quickly adapt to using it. And snipers like not being heard.

I'm not so sure about that. I mean, I've think the number of rounds in that as well as the automatic capability would set off the law alarms.

i grew up on .22's and have seen the damage they can do.
like ATG posted, when utilized as a long range rifle, the .22 round penetrates the head, then just bounces around until it runs out of energy. very fast, very light and able to travel long distances.....nasty little round, but great to learn on.

@ ATG, i gave up trying to figure our gun laws long ago, i just know im keeping mine.

California probably legalised it because it's a HPW, and therefore environmentally friendly....................................................

And the everyday practical use is?  And that's my problem with guns, they mostly get bought because people like ATG think they're "cool" rather than because they actually serve a purpose.

The .22 round can be deadly unlike its bigger relatives that might go straight through a target, the smaller .22 round has a habit of tumbling inside the human body, its been noted that the damage caused by the .22 is almost the same  to that of being hit by a .45 round.

my problem with guns is they're too easy for people who shouldnt have them to get them... and the fact our government goes out of its way to make huge complicated and pointless laws that dont fix any of the current problems, just add more

oh and as far im concerned
fully automatic= ban
as much as i would like to be able to own something like that, the only way we're going to get the OMG GUNS ARE TEH EVILZZZZZ people off of our backs are to give at least a few things up

The gatling crank is a attachment. There are no age restrictions, no laws against importing them. I ordered mine direct from BMI. The issue may be the high cap mags, which are illegal to buy, but legal to own ( as they could be legally bought before a certain date ).  Ebay pretty much solves that, if one wants it to.

What it is is the most popular .22 rifle ever made, the Rugar 10/22.  As it is the most popular, it has the most after market accessories:
http://sporting-goods.search.ebay.com/1 … leZ10Q2f22

One of the available accessories is this crank. I also was able to buy 50 round drum magazines.

Why?

Well...I'm an American damnit, what other reason do I need?

I used to shoot a lot. It was nice having the coolest .22 most rifle anybody has ever seen:

At first glance I thought that was some sort of AK, but upon closer inspection I found it to be a weapon of pure awesomeness.

What about MP3's and iPod's? They serve only as an entertainment device, like this gun, what everyday practical use does an iPod have other than entertainment?

Media storage?

But seriously you are kidding right?  MP3s and I-pods serve an entertainment purpose through the medium of acoustics.  They have an everyday use for million of people who use them on the way to work or running etc for listening to their favourite music and the music on them can be changed whenever you want so in 5 years time you will still be using it.  Guns (especially ones like these) are supposed to be for “self protection” and not entertainment devices according to all the pro-gun arguments I’ve ever heard.  Once you’ve shot a tree and maybe a wild animal (if you’re that Neanderthal) I don’t see were the “fun” will come from?

Don’t get me wrong, I’d have a laugh firing it for about 10 mins and then the novelty would wear off I think and I’d be like “Ok so what we doing now?”.

I was once asked by a gun advocate what I did in my spare time without guns, made me laugh for ages…

Well maybe, are you talking about the mini-14 or the gattling gun thing? I was talking about the gattling thing. I've fired a gun once in real life, after playing FPS games who wouldn't, but I can see I wouldn't get tired of it easily. You need something to destroy though, say an old car or fuel drum out in the back 'o beyond, a shed would be good to shoot as well, I believe to keep up the entertainment factor.

One of my favorite things to do is toss empty beer cans in the air and see how many holes I can put in it before it returns to Earth.
And line up discarded shotgun shells and snipe them from 30-40 feet.

Never gets old.

Guess I’m one of those people who think guns are cool.  Target shooting is relaxing and it’s fun to improve my skill so I’d call it an “entertainment device”, though it certainly can be used for self-protection.  I also think my PC is cool and it’s mostly used for gaming and hanging out in this forum, not really any practical use.  Should I get rid of that too?  Seems a little strange to tell people what their hobbies should be.  Also, those that choose to hunt are not Neanderthals.  All the hunters I know are very responsible and use the meat themselves to save money or they are generous and give the meat away to families in need after paying for it to be processed.  Personally trophy hunting seems like a waste to me.  If you haven’t fired a gun before, you should try it sometime.  It really is fun.
