Memory error

I've had this message a couple of times and have no idea what it means.

While a map is loading, it stops around 60% and I get a normal cursor.
I click off screen (2nd monitor) or Alt-Tab, and I get this message.

BF2 Memory error
memory.dll:sanity check:block size-533123009(3587.57MB)doesn't seem sane.
If I click retry, cancel or continue the game just closes.

Can you tell me what is wrong please ?

I would recommend a virus/spyware check, just to be sure.

Research on the error has yielded nothing besides a re-install of BF2. Thats all I can advise (it seems to be a common cure for most errors).

Try deleting you shaders cache maybe? It's quicker than re-installing, just sucks that you have to set your joystick options, etc. again. It's worht a shot anyways.

My Docs--> BF2--> Shaders--> cache (or something to that effect.)

Sober enough to know what I'm doing, drunk enough to really enjoy doing it

does it happen on one particular map? or anytime u load... if a server is running a customised version of a map... its can screw with the original (thats wat ive heard, never experienced it)

This is a bit old now

The problem has gone, I think it was virtual memory set to 0MB
But, I might be remembering wrong

I only had this error once and it was on greatwall which no one at all seems to play

I got it with UT2004, not with BF2, but yes, a stick of ram f'd up.

Yeah, I forgot all about this problem.

I'd just build my PC when I got this error.
My RAM was and is fine.
As far as I can remember, I only changed the paging file size, maybe that can cause the same error.

I'm not 100% certain, but a fixed page file size of 0 could well cause that error, yes.

Basically, what that error often means is that something tried to allocate memory and couldn't - if your RAM is full and you have no page file at all, then nothing can allocate new memory.
