hi,
i have a samsung syncmaster 206bw 20" widescreen..
my resolution in windows is 1680X1050 @ 60hz

what resolution shud i go for in BF2?????
the available options dont go that high so now i dont know what to do....
ive tried some of them but it all looks cheap in any of the given resolutions....

in case my pc specs are needed:

intel E6600
asus p5b deluxe
2gig corsair
nvidia 8800GTX
Havok
Nymphomaniac Treatment Specialist

First off, nice rig.  Second, I think you have to add a code to the end of the shortcut that you use to start up BF2.  I don't know it off the top of my head, but I'll go look for it.

Copy this:

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

Then right-click your BF2 shortcut > Properties > Shortcut and paste it in where it says Target:

https://img124.imageshack.us/img124/581/bf2wsqi3.jpg

And there's no need to delete any files. I never have and it works fine.

if you have messed with your setting bf2 will not start until you delete your player profile

ok i did that now but its still the same as before, thus running at the highest resolution available in the BF2 video options...

ive got another problem tho....
the game hangs sometimes like when its lagging, but i dont think it actually is lag...
my ping is around 20 so thats fine and i really dont think my gfx card is to weak

didnt check my fps before tho...
is there a way to see fps with the ingame console???
or do i really need fraps for that?

once you for the resolution do not change it in bf2, leave it a 800xwhatever. like i said if you messed with the setting you will probably have to delete your profile to make it work properly.

In the console:

renderer.drawfps 1

The frame rate is capped at 100 fps. To get past this:

game.lockfps 200(or any number higher than 100)

One other thing to note. If you use the shortcut switch you must use the shortcut to launch the game. Launching from the CD will ignore the res you set.

and if if you try to join a sf server from vanilla it will fuck up the rez too, you need to create a shorcut for sf as well and do the same thing.

There's no effect in changing

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen

BF2 isn't coded for widescreen so it just ignores the command. EA and DICE consider WS "cheating" or an "unfair advantage" since it would give a user greater horizontal field of view.

As well as for 2142, or any mods or expansion packs.

i got the same annoying problem... i run on 1280x800. If i were to put

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 800

would that work?

I know its stupid yet Crysis which is being brought out under EA will allow you to use whatever res you want. There is a video floating about on the net where Crysis is being demonstrated on an HUGE 180 degree projector, looks awesome.

This was one of the reasons they coded fog into bf2 so that people with better machines and graphics cards wouldnt get an unfair advantage over those that didn't.

There were also videos of BF2142 in WS, but when it was released guess what?

So what the widescreen resolutions basicly does, compared to fullscreen resolutions, is chop off the top and bottom, not widening your field of view? I can live with that. I have to get myself a new screen, and don't want to compromise my BF2 experience because of it.
