All I remember was that the year the computer was built was 1989, and that it was windows 1-3.1-2 
I really don't remember the exact number.  I do remember that the grid size was 8x8.

I guess we should just drop this now.  I keep mixing up the operating system and you keep trying to say that somehow you were playing an earlier version even though the one I was playing was the earliest version.  Neither of us is at his clearest sooo.....

Hmm... interesting... 8x8 grid size could have been any version between Win3.1 and Win2K...

I said 'earlier version' 'cos I knew it was the earliest (Win3.1) version - there can be no version earlier than that.

oh i am that unlucky, if i play 3 games i will hit the mine first time on 2 of them, it is not a game that likes me..

To clear things up:

1) xyzzy shift+enter works up to Windows XP. I haven't tested Vista yet. It alters a pixel on the upper left-hand corner of your monitor (which won't be visible if your display has been panned off-screen, or less-visible if your resolution is super-high). It turns black when you're over a mine. White when you're clear. Now quasi-nerds can impress their friends with their miraculous gift of electropathy.

2) Even with the cheat activated and the cursor over a black mine, it will not give you a first-click boom. The game 'officially starts' not when you create a new game, but upon the first click, giving you a freebie. The only way to achieve this is through Photoshop or a third-party Minesweeper app. Again, haven't tested Vista's.
