Honestly, they need to change it back to being a challenge to rank up. I got to Brigadier General within 180 hours, and then it was like 'mkay, now which unlocks should I use the most?' If they are indeed contemplating changing the ranking system, it could mean a reset of everyones stats...

2142 is more for the people who r in highschool that olny have time for like 2 hrs a day, making it a challenge to be a general

I absolutely do not have time to play 10 hours a day; if I'm lucky I maybe get 2 hours, and that's more of the exception than the rule.

I'd like it to be a little harder to get higher ranks indeed, I've got two times the career points for Brig now...
The problem is ... that there are large number of unlocks that you need ( unlike BF2 , where unlocks just suck and you get everything you need to own even with a pfc rank )

There is no need to have all unlocks so early (quite enough crap emong them) and you can fasten up things with Northern Strike. In fact that should be nice to have a small variation emongst the soldiers on the field instead of everyone equiped with everything.
And they don't have to increase the amount of points for all ranks that much. Just think of an exponential growing of the needed points for the next rank and make those three padder ranks (no more unlocks) obtainable for all.

I'm a brigadier general and I only have 67343. But you can't rank up from there without doing the following straight from EA.

The Decay ranks are awarded to the 76 players (tweakable) in the world with
the highest score (experience points) and reached the 40th rank. The rank is
based on the previous week total amount of experience points and divided as
follow:
Major General 50 players
Lieutenant General 25 players
Supreme Commander 1 player
The Decay Ranks will not generate any unlocks.
Highest score is the aggregated score (total summary of Career points) at
the specific time of calculation, which should be at a time where the player
count is as low as possible for instance every Monday at 2 am PST.
The Overall score Leaderboard is checked, calculated and updated on a weekly
basis (tweakable).
Every week the Supreme Commander of the week will be added to the Hall of
Fame Leaderboard.
Decay Conditions:
To have the weekly amount of earned Career Points added to your total Career
progress the player needs to fulfill these three criteria’s.
Reached the 40th rank Brigadier General
2000-5000 In A Round Score during the week (tweakable)
K/D Ratio of 1 - 2 (average during the previous week) (tweakable)
If the player doesn't’t fulfill these criteria’s his Career points stays
unchanged. (the weekly earned experience points plus In A Round Score are
not added to his total Career progress)
Criteria: Score/week K/D Ratio

how do you get the major general rank in battlefield 2142??????????? It just
stopped at brigade er general and now says highest rank. It shows me the
major general rank but does not show how many global points it takes to get
it.

For me there are just 3 achievable awards left (tank gold, transport gold, conquest medal), since I don't want to spend another 50 hrs in armoured vehicles and I still hate flying.
So I'm really thinking of a new fun-soldier. No, a cheating-padding-teamkilling fake is no fun at all, I'm talking about things like "General in under 100 hrs", "General with only one kit", "no vehicle at all" and other stuff like that.

i have nothing against those that need the rank to feel powerful, but really, what does it get you?? fame? power? prestige? chicks? i guess if you were good enough, some company might want to recruit you for an ad campaign, where upon the chicks will run to you in droves and the money will floweth, but if you are using a game as a career path, give your head a shake. at best you might get a mention in a gaming magazine (that Volx guy from BF2 did i think, PC Gamer?).
whatever, i probably play to much, but as mentioned, i play for fun and screw the ranking system. it does nothing for you...
