Yes. Hands down. No question. If you can afford it, get the extra gig. And DUAL-CHANNEL the RAM if your system supports it.
Yup, i mean, paired up wif my overclocked X2 3800+ and 7800 GTX, i definitely needed 2 gigs, and i got it, and now verifying is a snap
But is it still worse than a 2Gb if you get a really good 1Gb of RAM?

While running BF2 I see the ram reqs go above 1.1GB of ram. This means that, even with high quality 1gb of ram, you'll have to cache out to your slow-as-fuck harddrives for more memory space.
2gb of great (corsair, 2-2-2-5, dual channel 512x2) sticks will cost you $380. You can spend less, but definately buy 2gb. (or another gb if you have 1 already.)

OK I got a top of the line everything Dell XPS this year, but I only got one gig of ram, I am adding 2 this christmas. With the one gig of ram, I would get blue screens with graphics maxed every 30 mins...the extra gig makes a difference.
I went from 512 to 2 Gigs. The change was dramatic.
Previously my load time sucked. Most maps at least two points were captured before I started.
With 2 gigs, I can sometimes capture three points before I see an enemy. So load times are vastly improved, and for some reason I see crazy details on vehicles that I never notice before. Game colour is much better.

BF2 on high textures uses 700MB of RAM. So BF2 on high textures + OS + background application > more than a gig of RAM, so figure it out for yourself.
i got a 1 gb ram rest of specs below and i play medium with 1280 x 1024 i get like 1.5 minute loading times inc very client data and if i got another gig wud it speed up and also wud it give me more fps?? thx
I am currently running 1 gb of ram, and getting ready to upgrade one of my memory chips from 512 to 1 gb. I won't have 2 gb of ram, but 1.5 gb and I am sure that it will be a lot better. Hoping that I will be able to run my teamspeak with this change.
well i am not sure on this i have a 6200 and 512 ram should i go for the 7800 or more ram?
The only thing that does not make a difference is dual core processors
and i think you should go for the ram, because ram makes the whole game run smoother and it useful for other applications

Both?? While I think the 7800 would make a bigger difference in performance, you might as well pick up an additional stick of 512 while you're at it (they're only like 50 bucks, chump change when considering the cost of a 7800)theseb099 wrote:

well if i go for ram i get 1 gig more wich is 100$ wichs just delays my 7800+new mobo n processor(STUPID CRAPPY AGP, SOCKET A MOBO)

And to keep on topic, I have 2Gb of Corsair valueselect. I don't remember the timings, (3-3-3-6 maybe?), but they're not great... BUT! I remember reading an article that benchmarked ram timings and it doesn't really mean shit now. About the only time that the CAS timing means anything is if you're overclocking the ram. This was important back in the days of PC100, but not so much anymore.

1 Gig should be enough for medium and below although might have small lags at start not sure but should be enough anyway ofcourse 2G is always optimal solution
regarding the clock times of RAM, you're right I bought damn shitty clock times ( they were damn cheap) for my RAM but the quantity is what matters, all runs perfect ! clock are 4-4 or something and usually good RAMS are 3 and lower
