You have to understand that when we invaded Iraq the boxing gloves were off we would kill anyone on the street.  Messages in Arabic were played warning all to get off the streets prior to this....Insurgents would wait until civilians would flee to get to their home then pop out and fire...Soldiers would unload....There are soldiers who don't have it all and some guys would fire at people running away....Very few illegal killings were reported.....Later into the war the media got deep in the mix and the "focus" changed because the world was watching......First group of soldiers were in country about 18 months, then after that 1 year......The army is only so big so soldiers would get assignments to unit who are going so soldiers wound up getting a 6 month break and heading right back over there with there new unit....Some Soldiers who went for the invasion still thought that the same Rules applied to their second trip....wrong.....Mental cases can develop from seeing some of the carnage or watching a friend die in front of you or in your arms.....you may not even know if a soldier is having mental problems until its too late....Some don't care about killing civilians, but most do.........Enlist or get a Commission then bash........peace

You don't have much of a choice now because everything is investigated and 'big brother" is in full effect....It is very very rare in Baghdad, that a (non)Spec-ops soldier comes across a situation that nobody else sees it.  You have to report it...  You patrol the streets all the time and meet with town leaders and they will tell you "somebody was killed in this area on this day and here is their body" all a maneuver commander has to do is check the patrol schedule and activity log then start asking questions and somebody is gonna catch hell......If the civilian killing was ruled an accident and you used the correct methods to avoid it then you are ok in the military's eyes....the dummies get hammered when they try to cover it up.

For killing an innocent human being?  Fuck yes I would tell on him, but I know that he's more intelligent than that.

would you tell on your brother, jesus.. give me a break.
No, I wouldn't.  If he was a torturing serial killer, maybe. I have special rules for family. And those rules extend to the officers I work with. I trust them with the same degree I trust my brother. I depend on them, and they on me.

The blue wall of silence is still alive and well, and fuck the assholes in IA. There is a difference between what's acceptable, and what's abuse. IA doesn't see it that way.

If a guy in my squad kills people indescriminantly then he should be reported, as our army is PROFESSIONAL soldiers, not murderers. . . .

But our army doesnt train our soldiers to purposely kill innocents. . . .bottom line is civilians die in urban warfare, and MOST times its an accident. . . .

Our enemy makes a habit of killing innocents, and we make a habit of being as careful as possible to NOT kill innocents. . . But those who hate the USA know this, and flat out dont care! They want any excuse to bad mouth our president and our military.

For christs sake we need all the civilian help we can get in Iraq!! What does it do us any good slaughtering them?

soldiers are trained to not shoot civilians, ROE. if it happens, it is unfortunate, but they call it war, not happy fucking fun time.

This play on a sense of allegiance is lost on people with such duplicity, herd instincts and lack of character.

They wont get it.

Also translation dose not carry over well from the soldier on the battlefield to the bedroom in your parents house in the safety, security and protection provided by the former.

That’s just my guess but my guesses have been pretty good so far. No doubt they will check in.

So if my brother killed someone in cold blood, your suggesting i wouldnt report it. Ofc i fucking would. He may be my brother but that doesnt mean i would sacrifice my morals and my concious for him. I would perhaps even die for him, but im not going to live in misery for him.

Those articles printed today pretty much confirm what I've been saying all along.  Since Bush took office, there's been a sharp decline in ethics training the military receives and the new recruits I was getting in 2001 (before 9/11) reflected that.  Soldiers I was prepping for the board had no idea what the Geneva Conventions were or what to do if they were given an illegal order.  It was the result in a definite change in the tone of the leadership, and it started at the top and trickled all the way down.  The few high-level NCO's that I respected for having integrity started bailing about that time.  Then 9/11 happened, and again it was a free pass to do whatever the hell you wanted in the name of paranoia.

People think I'm "dogging the soldiers" when I absolutely am not.  It is a purely leadership problem trickling down from Chimpy McFlightsuit, filtered through neo-con idealogues in the civilian leadership positions, then made policy by whichever General swallows his ethics and manages to keep his job.  Its unfortunate that you can't have any degree of integrity as top brass without losing your job quickly.

Iraq is still in the stone age technology wise, they don't contribute to the world at all. I haven't ever heard of an Iraqi inventing anything. They aren't really humans in a sense.

I'm not trying to be racist, it is true, Iraq hasen't contributed to the world at all, and if you show me proof that they invented something useful I will shut my mouth and take back everything I've said.
Gee, look what the non-humans "invented"............

Sophisticated irrigation systems, first cereal agriculture, earliest writing (cuneiform), pass on complex techniques to successive generations, full syllabic alphabet, recording the commerce of the times in great depth, double entry accounting practices (used to this day as a standard for record keeping), private properties, the numeral 60 based math system (which is the basis of time in the modern world), banking, recording of literature (like the epic of Gilgamesh), early calendars, bureaucratic system of priesthood, the first wars fought, the earliest legal comprehensive code known in history (Hammurabi Code), the first wheel, the first seed plow, the first sailboat, the division of circle into 360 degrees, invention of longitude and latitude in geographical navigation, the first sophisticated medical science, algebraic equations and invention of zero, and much much more, were all founded and developed in Iraq, in historical order, giving witness to the greatness the country has known over the centuries in terms of human achievements.

But other than that, what have the Romans done for us?
Dunno if you mentioned it, but they also invented beer.

Oh bullshit.  The Suck is the same now as it was back in 1995.  Just different equipment and uniforms.

I get the feeling that ethics are a minor concern when survival is generally a major priority you're faced with on a daily basis in Iraq.

Perhaps, I'm racist when I say this, but I care a lot less about how our soldiers treat the Iraqi people than I do how proficient they become at defusing IEDs.
