They do stuff like this in all branches of the forces. Still. I know in Navy and Coast Guard they make you do dumb shit whenever you cross the IDL, the Arctic Circle, the Antarctic circle, and the Prime Meridian. They don't make you do anything painful though, cause yeah, it was outlawed.
