Since I got SF and installed the new patch I'm experiencing lag like never before. It takes me 5+ minutes to load a map, and most the time I play its so laggy, its almost impossible for me to survive or get any kills. I usually play in servers where I have a ping in the 40s. I have all updated drivers, and have had this lag problem before and after I reformatted my computer. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Here's my machine specs:

ATI x850 pro (standard pipelines)
3.4ghz  P4
1 Gig 3200 RAM
8-9Mbps connection speeds

I had almost the same config and I also had a lot of lag during the game.
I bought the 2Go OCZ Platinum low latency memory ram and now it's working very well.

ASUS P5AD2-E Premium
P4 3.6ghz
2 Gig 4200 OCZ platinum DDR2 RAM
7800GTX 256

Here's an update in case anyone cares.
The memory didn't help. Neither did upgrading my video card bios along with a new fan on the vid card.

Aparently it was my processor fan. It appears to have been slowly failing more and more, and finally my motherboard bios gave me a "hey dummy your processor is overheating" message when I tried to reboot one time. So I took out the stock intel fan and put in an Aerocool cooling tower, and my 3D Mark score has over doubled.

Thanks for posting an update! That is amazing that a fan solved the problem.

Is this network lag or low fps?

From what you are talking about, ie. long map load times etc. it sounds as if you need to defrag your hard drive. Helps a lot. After patching to 1.2 I checked the file system and all the BF2 files were extremely fragmented.

Check you hard drive activity when you play. If it is buzzing like crazy then it is a problem with file fragmentation.

fragmentation is not the broblem. radeon graphic cards (not supported) are.  i have 9250 and i have same problem as u guys. no buildings, laggin. My sreen resolution stays at 800x600 even if i try to change it

One of my clan mates, that does not compete, installed the patch and now is unable to play his game. It is so laggy, that even the sound chops. He has installed the latest ati driver, and set everything to low including sound. He even ran it at 800x600 to keep system resources low. He had no issues running it at med/low before, and now cannot play.

Has anyone else had issues, and have you found a way to solve them, or have you seen it on a forum somewhere?

He did reinstall. did not work

I also have a Radeon 9200, and I see the same problems, no buildings, unbelievable lag.  This happens playing local as well as online.  I had no problems online before the patch.  Of course, EAs website is not very friendly when it comes to self-support, and not very informative at all.  I've been watching these threads grow huge and there is nothing mentioned on EAs site...

Same here I have a 9250 and was playing just fine until patch 1.2, Thats good to know that the lastest ati drivers don't solve the problem, thats what I was going to try next! I have tried the uninstall  and install did not work either. I am going to try and rename the .EXE file and we will see if that works and get back with you.

Guys there are only 1000 posts about this problem.
Thanks for starting thread #1001.
We all appreciate the fact that  you don't know how to use the search function.

Here is the answer to your problem:
Chip type: RADEON 9250 AGP (0x5960)

It appears anyone with an ATI 9000. 9200. and most 9500 series cards are screwed.

Oh and try this link.
