If you believe in the Biblical God, what would discovery of humans, or human like creatures on another planet do to those beliefs? What if we could talk, and their society was millions of years old and they had different Gods?
This is a big question and I've wondered about it for a long while too. I'm a Christian and I'm sure most Christians think about this question too. I haven't heard much about it either. I wrote a topic about it on a Christian gaming forum a loooong time ago, but it got deleted for some reason probably because they thought I was being anti-Christian (?). Anyways, I don't know the answer for this and I'm not going to worry about it because even if there are people on that planet, I don't think that would interfere with any religions or beliefs on earth.

20 lightyears? If there's anything smart up there we could start a fairly practical interstellar communication. It'll be interesting to see our grandkids huddled around the TV/telephone/computer thingamabob of the future waiting to find out what the Glieseans (?) are saying to us.

cool!
question: if God created such a large universe, why would he create human life on only one planet?

it wouldn't change my belief system - unless these 'aliens' had something really convincing to say...

i like to think i would go into the discussion with an open mind.

It'll take 20 years to get there (Assuming you're traveling at the speed of light) I say we create a worm hole :-P. Not to mention the fact you've just wasted 20 YEARS OF YOUR LIFE, DO YOU REALIZE HOW LONG THAT TAKES! THAT'S  7300 Days, 175200 Hours, 10512000 Minutes, 630720000 Seconds. Food? Sex? BF2? I couldn't stand that long, that's for sure.

ok, now what?
question to you: what if this planet claimed to physically interact with God(s).  would that change your mind?  it would change mine - depending on the extent of the interaction, etc., of course.

There need to be two ships to transport everyone to that planet.  The first ship will be filled with Mexicans and building material and launched five years ahead of the second ship.  The idea is that by the time everyone else gets there, we will already have our homes built with well groomed lawns and plenty of fresh crops in the grocery store.

Only 13 days to orbit the star? Every 12 days I would be like "Damn I just paid my taxes!"

Its unfortunate they havent taken a serious look at 40 Eridani, thats where Vulcan should be...

However, maybe Roddenberry got it wrong and its really the Gliese 581 star system.
Seriously though, thats why my goal in life is faster than light displacement.  If I can do that my life will be complete.

Maaan, if we need to go there I say were pretty screwed.

Do you think that the past people that lived there were so evolved they found something better? Perhaps that was old earth, and this is new earth, and that small life forms travelled from there to here using superhypermegatransportation systems, like on the Doom movie.
Or if they were like us, but they were 100 years infront, and they just had a nuclear war and they all dead?

I bags the uranium and gold on the planet. Its all mine.
