First off this is just an idea of mine, it is not a plan of any organization, I can up with this by myself.

The majority of the problems in Africa are all based around one thing: poverty. Poverty in Africa is so deep that no matter how much the West gives in aid it will still be way to sort. The only way that we can solve Africa's poverty problem is to get Africa to generate money itself. A way we can help that to happen is to move our Western companies into Africa. If these companies can pay Africans for their labor then both sides benefit: the Africans get money, although next to nothing by Western standards to them the money paid would be enough to buy themselves food and clothing. Most Africans survive by subsistence farming, that is farming just enough to feed their families. So if a Western company comes into Africa looking for unskilled workers then it would be hard to pay the Africans so little they would be worse off working of the companies. Obviously the Western companies would benefit because they would get a new, cheap source of labor. And with the companies having less costs then they can afford to charge less for their products so we regular people win aswell.

Meanwhile, you'd be putting westerners out of jobs and increasing unemployment. Unpopular decision.

Another possible solution:

We stop treating the people of the third world as something there for us in the developed world to exploit.

i blame the colonialists, but i offer no solution.  i agree that poverty is a major contributing factor - among others of course.  from what i hear, Africa will be the next hotspot in terms of military action...

It has been a hot spot.  I know I was there a few times.  It was just not "sexy" enough for the media to cover.

Another possible solution: we stop buying the products that people in the third world exploit themselves to procure and sell. Oops, can't do that, can we?

Well the economy of China is starting to pick up, pretty soon the Chinese will be able to get higher wages by working for their own companies. And so western companies could turn to Africa to get labor that is even cheaper than that of China.

But much of Africa isn't gererating anything for itself or the rest of the world. While I do not think slave-wages are right I need to be realistic. and also do you really think that people who need to beg for food to survive wouldn't be better off if they have even extremely low monetary income? And also the extremely low wages would go allot farther there than here. Ever hear the "a quarter can feed this Child for a day" commericals? Well what if the same Child's family could make eight times that in a day easily if even one family memeber had a job.

i guess so.  only sexy enough for hollywood, right?

with respect to this thread, maybe we should change this to"Africa[n] problem" to "African problemS" (expand/narrow with topics).

What if we developed the political will to solve the problem once and for all. It wouldn't actually be that difficult, the developed world can afford it, and we wouldn't be exploiting them as cheap labour.

wait until Darfur hits the 1,000,000 mark for their death toll.

You may see a little blurb about it scrolling across the bottom on CNN.
