This was the first time the guy was a demonstration pilot...he went down on his first flight..
That sucks... How much practice time and combat flight time did he have? I know the BA spend months training, and they have already been doing shows for 4 months I believe.
It seems odd that this happened. The Angels scout out their show routes a week in advance for things like powerlines and trees.
my condolences go to the friends and family of the pilot, and to his squadronmates. it is always a tragedy when someone is killed in a situation like this, we can only hope that it stays rare.
As has been said before, it is most likely a malfunction with the jet that caused this. These pilots are stupid, they know the limits of the aircraft and don't get extremely close to the ground unless it is a clear area. Apparently the pilot lost altitude before hitting the power lines which is why I am guessing loss of power or control is to blame.RAIMIUS wrote:

By "these pilots are stupid", you mean "these pilots aren't stupid"? Because the rest of your post supports that they aren't stupid, and I don't think they are stupid myself.Miller wrote:

I also think it was a malfunction of some sort.

Found this on CNN:
Caption: "Fred Yelinek sent the following images after he saw the crash. Yelinek said the jet came down only about 100 yards from him with an 'earth-shattering rumble.'"
Source - 3rd pic in. So sad.

Thoughts and prayers to the families and bystanders. The Angels have brought so many good times to millions of people who have seen them. By the looks of the video, and the planes violent reaction, it looks as if the let(foldable)wingtip collapsed. This would instantly turn the plane over and pancake it in the opposite direction. I didn't see any other planes, or obstructive objects to cause dammage. Sad indeed. He was either passed out by the G-forces(no G-suit), or tried to ride it out of the residential area.
Waste of money.
