Bolt-action Snipers:

- M24
- M95
- L96A1

Semi-auto Snipers:

- SVD
- Type 88

Well, for me, I'd have to go with Bolt-action, semi-auto just doesn't work for me.

I would like a semi auto like the M-14 rifle I took basic training with it 43 yrs ago. I think Marines call it M-40  or M-49 used as back up by the spotter in a sniper team.

Null vote. Both are good and bad at different things.

Semi users= Masters of City sniping

Bolt users= Masters of Open map Sniping

Personally i prefer bolts for city since many snipers prepare to stay still in their spots and headshots are alot easier with the bolt scopes.

I use bolt-actions 98% of the time and I'm an urban-map specialist, and a CQB player.

Regardless of the potential of the semi-autos in the right hands I think the power of the bolt-actions is a significant advantage. So IMO it's all about skill level and playing style, not about map size/type.

L96 is my rifle and there's no other rifle in the game that handles like it. I just love it.

Bolt action is probably also better for your accuracy. I m ranked 2.000+ globally on sniper accuracy atm and around 80+ in my country and i only use bolt action rifles.

The best game i played recently was Karkand io on a full server and i got 46 kills with the sniper kit and 16 deaths. I ended the game with 98 points and i was second best on my team. L96 ftw.

But headshot = kill

So therefore if you are really good you would do better with semi.

I meant it as a generalization. See people who use semi autos are really good on city maps since they are so close to their enemy's and can take many shots in a row. Aka Semi users are impatient, While us bolt users wait for the enemy we hunt we stalk them until they stop moving and then we kill them we dont waste ammo.

Bolt = Ammo conservation Thats why i love the m24 and m95.

Now i know you can say that you can do the same with Semi's but the temptation is too much for most of us.
Especially me when i get a semi i go crazy with it i once pretended that it was a semi and owned half of ghost town but then i hit a guy twice int he chest and i'm like fuck it. Svd spammed 3 bullets his way and got him.

I prefer the bolt actions for the scope (CS conditioned me to a simple scope design and I pay for it when I play 2142 ) although the semi-autos have their moments.

Really? Ammo conservation? I prefer to take shots at moving targets - you may not get the shot you're looking for if you wait for them to stop, and the more shots you take the more experience you will get with leading a target, accuracy stats be damned. If you hit you've damaged them usually enough for at least a kill assist too. That and I have the mentality that if I die and still have plenty of bullets in my gun they've been wasted.

Considering this you're making me want to go and try out the semi-autos for a while

I dont. Only if i have the M95 then maybe but thats only when they are close and not running zig zag. Look at my sniper stats most missed shots i have come from svd. I'd rather pull the trigger once and get 1 accurate body shot then pull the trigger three times and only get one body shot.

Well each to his own I guess. Of course if you can keep your cool at all times it'll only be a good thing in the long run, so good for you .

I'll admit I'm unlikely to take a shot at somebody zig-zagging, and stationary targets are a preference if they're around, but otherwise a moving target is still a target, just a challenging one.

I'll take your word for it in regards to stats seeing as it doesn't separate weapons completely, although time wise you've killed faster than me with sniper rifles, so I commend you for that achievement with your mentality. Quite an eye-opener really.

I tend to go through phases, since I have both of the sniper unlocks. Right now, I'm in a semi-auto phase, knowing how long to wait before shooting to allow the rifle's deviation to go back down. About a month ago (after unlocking the L96A1), I was in a bolt-action phase, and could effortlessly lead targets.

Doesn't matter to me, though, either way I try to serve as a squad's marksman. Though I don't play too much sniper anymore, so I use rockets as my marksman's weapon of choice.

A single SVD sniper can take on a 3 medic squad on IO maps.

Screw accuracy.  I'm for kill counts and K/D.  I go for running targets all the time.

But when countersniping, L96.

And as such , null vote.  Depends on the situation.

And i'll take yours. I think if i had only used bolts my accuracy would be somewhere in the 80's but there is still time to improve. Thx alot and i commend you for the win/lose ratio.(Should've been more proactive with my G3 yesterday damn it!)

True. But i dont snipe on IO it's too hard with all the people running and too many noobs use the pkm to smoke you out.

The whole point of sniping is Accuracy.

I prefer M95 for some reason.
