I'm going to bring this thread back from the dead because I've seen a few really good films lately that not many people would have heard of...

1. 9th Company aka 9 Rota A war movie based on real events in the Russia/Afghanistan war.
2. London To Brighton A gritty, unflinching tale about a prostitute and a homeless 12 year old girl on the run from some nasty people.
3. The Chumscrubber A surreal take on American suburban dysfunctionality.

Actually I think most people watched 9th company on film four last night.

But yeah, was a great film to say it was all in Russian. I quite liked the bit where it shows his picture of Afghanistan with his blood on it, as well as the fight scenes.

Just get a Guide to Classic films. A lot of great ones are before our time. If you know what to look for the symbolism alone can be really interesting.

" The Searchers " or " even King Kong " " 12 O'Clock High " is a about X/Y styles of leadership. I had to watch it in a Mgt. course in College.
" Hells Angels " was pretty trippy ( Record most people killed while making a film )

How ever " The Winslow Boy " is one of my favorite current films.

Just off the top of my head, in no particular order.

-The Machinist (Spain, 2004)
-The Proposition (UK/AUS, 2005)
-Sexy Beast (UK, 2000)
-Get Carter (UK, 1971)
-The Constant Gardener (UK, 2005)
Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.

Basically yes, but the movie doesn't concentrate on the conflict itself, but on the guy who tries to remember what was his part in the conflict and what the hell happened while he was there.
The movie obviously exaggerates a few situations but it's still a unique and very watchable movie imo.
