This debate will NEVER end as long as the game is around.

Having completed the sniper awards now, having just earnt the specialist badge (and 109hours to date as sniper), I have to agree that they CAN be better than medics - and have come to realise how valuable they are to a team's efforts in winning.

Take Surge on IO (where I just earnt it). In both rounds I came top of the leaderboard - above every other medic in the server on kills and almost rivalling them in teampoints. All of that whilst being SL both times, issueing orders to the squad and running rampant between flags when we could (especially as Spetz).

Certain maps dictate which classes will dominate. Generally, city maps provide havens for medics. Maps such as Surge/MD/Jalalalabad provide havens for snipers to dominate, and no medic is going to be able to beat the amount of snipers you face. In fact, in both rounds of Surge just now 50% of our team was playing sniper and there were THREE medics.

Yes, medic is the superior infantry class for its weapons, sprint and teampoint abilities - however, they are not dominant on every map in the game: IO mode or not.
Im sure that in any clan match: yes, they are. However, public play: they are not always.
And that is because most players can't play outside vanilla city maps so you have to adapt. You always have to adapt to the situation - and some maps require more than a pair of shock paddles.

SNIPER and TEAM aren't mutually exclusive. When I'm sniper I ALWAYS make sure my contribution does something for the team. There's no other reason to play.

If I'm MEC I always spawn at hotel. I do one of three things:

1. I run like hell to the East Wall, dropping a claymore at the alleyway nearest the hill, and another on the outside run of the East Wall, then I settle in to the third palm tree, and try to block the USMC passage to Cement Factory / Train Accident down the East Wall and Hotel through the alleyways.

I consider that an important team goal. I'm protecting three CPs at one time, and shutting off one front of the battle.

2. I run towards the West hills, dropping 2 claymores along the tin wall, one at either entrance. Then I lie up against the wall targeting the hill behind the trash dumpster, and the entrance farthest South. That gives me a chance to keep USMC from hitting Hotel from the West side.

3. The last thing I might sometimes do is drop one claymore at the North opening in the West side tin wall, and continue through that entrance to the Western hills. I drop one claymore in the hills, then backup and try to snipe the run at Suburbs/Square.

I try to make sure that USMC can't run past Hotel down that Western run and give MEC two fronts.

So, in conclusion  ;-)  I really feel like even when I'm sniping I'm doing what I can to help the team win. I think abunch of guys standing around hotel lobbing grenades and reviving people to grab a shitton of points aren't doing anything more for the team than I am. I'd argue they aren't doing as much.

No, that would be yours mate. At least he takes the time to put together well presented and balanced arguments. You, on the other hand just spout the same stuff over and over again, about how much better medics are. Grow up
except that im right, and nobody other than some noobs around here would disagree with me on this matter. go on thinking whatever you like about how bf2 is a nicely balanced game where each role is necessary. i used to think that too. in reality, whichever team has less medics has a serious handicap. And if you are talking about vehicle maps, then anti-vehicle kits are important too. But anything is possible. And since its possible to accomplish anything in BF2 with some skill, you will ignore all the cases where you could have contributed twice as much by keeping yourself and squadmembers alive. Snipers fighting two medics that go for revives while moving are at a profound disadvantage from any range, play the game accordingly noobs.

and for god's sake use teamwork. i can sit here telling you how teamwork makes bf2 easy and fun, but u will all sit there cursing me and talking about how "i, personally, help the team most by running off alone and padding my KD ratio on people that should easily be able to revive each other." at least you obivously have an audience that knows little enough about bf2 to agree.

ok sensei, pose a single scenario, relevent to winning a game, involving only snipers, than cant be beaten with an equal number of medics with equal skill. Hint, nobody plays IO on maps that lack continuous cover between flags, and medics can travel in transports if its not IO. Are you beginning to see why medics have far greater potential and should replace snipers in almost any scenario?

ive always enjoyed making posts to help u guys learn the game. hopefully this thread makes a difference for some people.

and anybody that is trying to say that i think medic is the only useful kit hasn't been reading my posts, or the topic of the thread. it is a comparison of medics and snipers. the most useful kit in the game vs. the least useful kit in the game. other kits are useful in particular cases, but sniper is only useful as long as the enemy fails to use shockpaddles (the easiest to use item in the game).

17-0.

Helps the team, whilst having no deaths helps the team even more.

35 Kills help the team, but the 12 deaths hurt it.  If you can keep the 17-0 ratio and keep getting kills without dying, it would eventually work out better than the 35-12.

KDR doesn't really matter in a clan war either...  You can have a 30:1 KDR but still lose...

Wow, thanks Game over, you provided exactly the shot I was looking for   +1

That proves my point.  It doesn't matter at all how many kills you get, how many deaths, revives, resuplies, anything.  It's possible for you to get 2,000 points legit and still lose.  Tactics and knowing what to do at the exact moment is what will get the win for you.

**And those who actually play the game to have fun are the ones going for the win**
