Is this not demeaning the tribute to the sufferers of the holocaust? Perhaps they should rename it the 'Memorial to Holocaust Victims And Other Jews That Have Been Murdered'. I thought it was a memorial to those who suffered the wrath of a genocidal maniac who tried to wipe jewry from the face of the earth, not a memorial to random unrelated non-genocidal killings. This guy didn't get shipped off to Bergen-Belsen to spend two years on a diet of soup and made to run around naked before being burned alive.

Couldn't agree more! This is just ridiculous.
So now every Jew that gets killed should now be added to a Holocoust memorial?

For years the Jewish people have let what happened to them define them, and in the end the only people who will be hurt by this will be them.

The Jews (Israel, Israel lobby, etc.) will keep using the Holocaust as an excuse and reason to do whatever they want.
Like some minorities who can stand up and leave in class, punchline being "You're only doing this because I'm Black/Asian/Paki/etc."

Let the Holocaust be the Holocaust. It ended in 1945.

He wasn't killed for being a Jew, he was killed for being a journalist who was writing a story about Islamic extremists.  If he is to be honoured, he should be honoured appropriately.

Also, a movie?  WTF?

Nowadays every jewish person can play the "you are an antisemite" card.
There was a Holocaust whats tragic where all poor jews were killed and remember that all other rich jews could buy their freedom and then they went to america.
Anyway not only the Holocaust was a mass killing crime. Israel has also killed a lot of muslims.

On a short side note, when i visited a concentration camp on a school trip, the guide told us that while Hitler killed hundreds of thousands of people in them, Once russia took control of the camps, they killed far more people, in worse circumstances, yet i hear little of that. Not trying to make Hitler's attitude look acceptable or anything, just wondering why people hear/know very little of Russia's attrocities.

thats really sad. that is extremely disrespectful to the actual holocaust victims, and while i do think that is a very horrible thing that happened to him, that is not the place to honor him or his memory.
and as far as the movie is concerned; i could think of many events that would make a better movie that have happened during the "War on Terror". i specify that time frame because any movie that might be made about the pearl incident would probably be slightly biased......im just speculating here though.

It's true, the Holocaust was unique because it was a huge industrial effort. But its spirit is alive and well in Iran and elsewhere. Adding Pearl's name to the Holocaust memorial is an acknowledgment that today there are people who would like to wipe out all Jews and there are other people who would stand by and do nothing while it happened.

Mmm. Give him a separate memorial, if they give him one at all. How many people have been taken hostage and beheaded over the past few years? Why not start a proper memorial for the victims of terrorist attacks....

I agree it's a tragic event that he was killed, as ANY innocent in a warzone being killed is a tragic event.

Adding him to a holocaust memorial pisses me off though. It's wrong. If any names should be added it's the names of the disabled, gay and communist people that were also sent to the camps and put to death by the Nazis.
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.

It's their memorial, let them put whomever the fuck they want to in it.  You don't think he was killed for being a Jewish American?

Really? you sure about that?
I'm Jewish and I'm not letting it effect me.  The other jews I know are not letting it effect them.  It hasn't defined me in the least.  My friend is a proud german, he's got an Iron Cross tattoo, and a german flag tattoo. He calls me a dirty Jew, and I call him a Kraut.
Don't generalize crap you obviously dont know about.  Not very many Jews I know run around blaiming germany/or the Holocaust for they're woah's in life.

Erm, you do realise that about 30,000 Jews live peacefully and unharmed in modern Iran, don't you?

Honestly, there's a plus and a negative side to it in my opinion.

The plus is that it shows that adversity that jews have gone through in the world....unprovoked, unwanted, and unnecessary adversity put on a lot of them for being jews. I'm not talking israel, i'm talking jews in general where they're the minority. I'd know too. I'm a former jew (now atheist) who went through over 5 years of persecution at my schools throughout the years.

The negative is that this man, while innocently killed for being an american and a jew, his death has nothing to do with the 6 million deaths of other innocent jews in europe 60 years ago.

Honestly? I think it's a toss-up whether he should or shouldn't go on. Maybe in a separate section in the memorial, but not with the 6m victims.

God, I still remember seeing that video though...i was like 10 (15 now). Shocked me since I was so young but got me used to the reality of the world and the sick people we inhabit this earth with.

I would be very surprised if that's true.  Certainly the USSR killed far more people, but I'm pretty sure they didn't use German camps to do it.

They are second-class citizens.

But there are legal problems for Jews in Iran - if one member of a Jewish family converts to Islam he can inherit all the family's property.

Jews cannot become army officers and the headmasters of the Jewish schools in Tehran are all Muslim, though there is no law that says this should be so.

But their greatest vulnerability is their links to Israel - where many Jews have relatives.

Seven years ago a group of Jews in the southern city of Shiraz was accused of spying for Israel - eventually they were all released....

Ahmedinejad's threat to wipe Israel off the map, his calling the Holocaust a myth, and Iran's participation in the bombing of a Jewish community center in Argentina before Ahmedinejad came to power suggest that Iran doesn't have much regard for Jewish lives. Maybe I'm not giving Iran the benefit of the doubt, but to me it looks like Russia and other countries that grudgingly tolerated Jews until there was a good enough excuse to massacre them. The continuity with pre-Holocaust Jewish life is striking.

@Kmarion, I'm not sure which way that article cuts. The fact that Iranians need remedial education in 20th century history is disturbing.
