I have a Mac Book Pro 17" model, it supports up to 2GB ram and I'm planning on splashing out for new memory. Two 1GB cards ...just wondering if anyone knew of a reliable brand that's not too expensive anywhere on the web?
No you don't. There are AV solutions for OS X, but if you manage to screw your box up from an exploit/virus there's probably nothing the software would do to stop you anyways.Jenspm wrote:

By the by, OS X uses IPFW (freebsd) for firewalling, or maybe it's called something else, I think freebsd changed the name somewhere along the line.
If Macs never break, how come Ipods do?
And if windows xp sucks so much, why do you use bootcamp to use it?

theres over a 100 million of those things out there, it's just a hard drive with a video screen. be gentle with it.Sarrk wrote:

to play bf2. that was it for me.

Ive known many people who were nearly OCD with thier Ipod, it seems like they're engineered to break after a year or so.Marlboroman82 wrote:

My flatmate had his iPod run over by a Mercedes ...didn't even skip, works perfectly! It seems some iPod's are tougher and better built than others!Sarrk wrote:

At our school we have a couple of Mac Pro's with the Quadro FX in the back. Things don't crash because when you buy that card, nVidia makes it work, no matter what.unnamednewbie13 wrote:
Indubitably. If I want something that would render for days with virtually no chance of crashing, a Mac would probably be a more solid choice...unless it was afflicted with some oddball Mac bug that's a pain in the ass to troubleshoot. As it is, my PC has only crashed once on long-term renders with proper software.
Anti-what? Nah. Really no need to. Firewall is build in. And virusus are non to zero.B.Schuss wrote:

I am not going to respond to your childish comment. Go play outside.Marinejuana wrote:

Just like they are on their PC counterpart. The only difference is the coding.
Under Bootcamp, my BF2, BF2142, CNC3 actually runs better than on my regular PC.
Could you explain how Parallels works if you already have Windows Boot Camped? Like, can I install Windows via Boot Camp and then get Parallels to use my installed Windows, or does Parallels basically require me to install Windows a second time for the virtual machine?
Also, have you tried gaming in Parellels (since it now supports 3D acceleration)?
Thanks.

now that the new MacBook Pros are out, i m thinking of upgrading my G4 P-P-P-P-Powerbook. Any of you have got experiences wwith the matt and hi-gloss screen. My work is largely graphic and cad-based. What is the recommendation?
Anyone?kingofkolt wrote:

why wont mac fanboys leave me alone when im on my laptop? can u like talk to them or something? Seriously, i always have to shut them up by flipping the screen around and scribbling FUCK YOU on the screen. Which is weird because people that actually USE their mac and aren't trying to be in a club seem to be normal people. Like you (OP). I used to harass my pops about his mac rigs, until he let me play with them. Both for editing and i said goddamn! nice machines. And I also worked on a show where the crane op was using his mac book as the monitor. That was also sweet. I think computers are just tools to be used, but people seem to take on like a religion.
I recently got a MacBook Pro. It has an Nvidia 8600M GT 256 meg Video Card. I installed Bootcamp & XP.
Unfortunately Nvidia's website has no support for this card.
Now what do I do?

Apple just released a new version of Bootcamp which I believe has the necessary drivers.alien-DSW-Gen wrote:

Or you can go straight to the source (nvidia.com): http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_158.22.html (assuming you don't have XP Professional x64 edition; if you do, that's here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp64_158.22.html)

well, it has arrived. it is here before me.
I switched it on to update it, but during the registration process it occurred to me that my G/F probably wants to pick her own password, so I decided to just load the battery.

Do any good games run on a Mac?

I have not tried to use Parallels to play any games, so I can't give you any advice/comment on it. I did however try to play Half Life 2 with CodeWeaver's Crossover. That has full Native 3d support, and was great!kingofkolt wrote:

Ill try to use Parallels next week and write a tutorial for here.
I would advice the 17" top model. Maybe a bit more expensive but very powerfull.mikeshw wrote:

Some people are so enthousiastic about the Mac that they scare away people. I usually let people on my Mac to try it out, and to give a global idea of the mac. That way I convinced my current boss and father-to-be-in-law.golgoj4 wrote:

Download Bootcamp 1.3 beta for those drivers. Use software update in either your Mac or Windows account (second is the easiest).alien-DSW-Gen wrote:

Thanks! But any of you guys out there who actually own a MacBook with a glossy screen? Just need some feedback about it since my G4 has a native matt screen.Bernadictus wrote:
