Yes, in Europe, corporatism and hawkishness worked out so well in recent history... hey Germany, how'd that whole lebensraum thing work out for ya?

By the way, which SERIOUS issues are those that our 'cross the pond neighbors need to fix?  By and large I would say the level of hate around this place is low.  Granted, Britain is having some major "Big Brother" problems, but nothing a little light political turnover won't solve, and its nothing Bush wouldn't do if he could get away with it (like cameras on every street corner).

And socialism?  You know how nice it is to know that you won't die because you're not rich?  You know how nice it is that you can attend university solely based on merit and not your family's ability to foot the bill?  You know how nice it is and in line with "family values" that a working mother can stay home up to 2 years to take care of her new kid, without losing too much in the way of career?  You have any idea how nice it is to only need to work a 40-hour work week to make ends meet?  All told, my tax tab between living in Europe and USA is nearly identical (Europeans like to bitch a lot about money, especially Germans, 50% my ass)...the difference is that I actually SEE with my own eyes some benefits of what I pay into living here.

Go ahead, tell a Swede how much their socialism is hurting them...I guarantee most would laugh at you.  Tell the French that their employee protections suck and they should work harder for less, or tell the Germans that they should force mothers to go back to work after 2 weeks of maternity leave (and raise the drinking age to 21 for shits and giggles), or tell half of the Romanians careful not to get a papercut because if it gets infected the doctors can't see them anymore (actually, they wouldn't care...more tsoika!)

Also I saw you were bashing the EU for wanting to protect the free market by curbing Microsoft's monopolistic practices?  Not sure which econ class you went to, but once a market segment becomes monopolized it ceases to be a free market.
