But hey, they could also gloss over the Crusades as well. "In the Middle Ages, the righteous followers of Christianity brought salvation to the heathen Muslims. They politely declined their offers, however, for the Muslims did not know any better."
I'm sure that would piss them off even more... lol

Ok, turn it anti-American then like most of the other threads.

Lol.. the flags burns everyday but if Newsweek makes up some BS story about flushing the Quran down the toilet people lose their minds. (Even though it is impossible to do so.)Stingray24 wrote:

I'm cool with it being anti both.... I started this thread hoping to get people to realize that rational people aren't offended by flag burning or Quran burning.usmarine2007 wrote:

I think burning a flag displays two of the greatest of virtues of our American society, culture, values, whatever you wanna call it. First, we have the right/freedom to burn, without fear of punishment, what we honor and hold sacred. Second, we tollerate the act of burning a flag, held together with American blood and sacrifice. Because the flag is only physical form of what we have bled a sacrificed for. The true symbol of America is the inalienable rights we all, as American citizens, value and hold dear.
You wanna burn a flag, go for it, it's your statement, your poor taste. You wanna take the rights of a single American citizen, that's when I get pissed.

You know what?
I burn flags all the time. Why? Because I fly the shit out of them.. I wear them out. And when it is time to dispose of them, I do it in accord with proper flag disposal methods.
I raise it at dawn and lower and fold it at dusk. If I'm staying up late -she's got a spotlight. If it happens to touch the ground, it burns. I might not have had the honor of being a soldier, but I am a fucking respectful American and I fly the flag of my country for those who have shed blood under it. I know what my flag stands for and am insulted at those who disrespect it.
People who burn flags out of protest haven't the intelligence and compassion to understand what they are doing. It makes me sad. It isn't about freedom of speech, it is hate speech. I'd love to see a demographic study done about party affiliation and flag burning in protest. Any takers on which side of the spectrum burns the flags?

I stood in line for four hours. They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something. - Rodney Booker, Job Fair attendee.
Are you suggesting flag burning that is done in protest should be banned?
Was that to me? Yea I think it should be outlawed. Just like defacing money is illegal... Or setting fire to a government building is illegal.. If someone were to try and lower my flag then try to burn it- I'd fucking shoot them.Turquoise wrote:

This is we differ. When you look at a flag, you see a mere piece of colored cloth. When I look at the US Flag, I see heritage, thousands of graves at Arlington, I see sacrifice, and I see triumph over adversity. The Flag should be protected just like the Bald Eagle.

and then, hopefully, you would go to prison for the rest of your life, because you would be a murderer.DBBrinson1 wrote:

By the same logic, I could justify making it illegal to burn the Quran or any other holy book.DBBrinson1 wrote:

Do you see how things like political correctness take hold of our laws? It's because of this "sacred" concept. When you open the door to banning a practice out of respect, there's no telling where it will end, because some people respect the Quran as deeply as you respect the flag.
So, perhaps, a better question is... Would you prefer flag burning to be illegal and political correctness to remain intact, or would you prefer to end political correctness and allow flag burning? You have to take the bad with the good in order to be consistent.
On my property -trespassing and stealing? Yea little boy, I think not.Reciprocity wrote:

There is an issue of good and bad. Flag burning is bad. End of story.. I don't give a flying fuck about what where you put or what you do with your Quran.Turquoise wrote:

Is the Quran a national symbol? No. Furthermore, That book is a religious icon not a political one. I'm sure you of all posters here support separation of church and state.
The left's pc arguments are weak.
By your logic it should then be open season on Bald Eagles then right?

But.... If we're a free country and the freedom of speech specifically refers to speaking out against your government, then burning a flag could be construed as a protest against the government.DBBrinson1 wrote:

So, in effect, banning this practice directly violates the 1st Amendment.
It is true that the Quran is not a national symbol, but why is your sensitivity to the flag more important than someone else's sensitivity to a religion? Let's change it up some... Should burning Bibles be allowed? If you can't burn flags, then why should you be allowed to burn Bibles?
you clearly implied that you would shoot someone for burning your flag. so please, go fuck yourself.DBBrinson1 wrote:

No. To me, that is like shouting "fire" in a crowed building, taking a bead on a Bald Eagle or defacing money. Again, you missed my separation of church and state point, an argument the lefts love to fall back on (when it serves them). I do, I really do understand the concept you are attempting to impose on me. And it is merely just a matter of ideological beliefs. I see the flag as a protected national icon (like the Bald Eagle) you don't.Turquoise wrote:

Let me just make sure I get one last thing straight. What you're saying is that the flag is a protected national icon, so by extension, you can't deface it on American soil, but this law has no effect outside of America, correct?DBBrinson1 wrote:

I dunno, the whole placing CCTV cameras on the streets in the UK seems to restrict freedom a bit.penguin.killer wrote:
