just curious for those who have taken the SAT and ACT what did you guys get? I'm starting to prepare for it now ugh
Whatever you do, DONT bring mechanical pencils on test day.
I dont remember it was 1995. I think I got around 1100 because my friend got a little higher than me and he was so close to 1200. Im average in that area, I never tested well. Just do your best man.
Malloy must go
2120 on the new one. Did I mention I'm in eighth grade (US)?
34 ACT and 1580 SAT, both in 2000.... I am proof positive that standardized test scores are not a good indicator of college performace.... As I am lazy to a beautiful degree. I did get great scholarship packages though
Took both, got 31 on the ACT. Forget my SAT score, it was a B+ish I think. 30 minutes for an essay is bullshit, they really don't understand the positive relationship between quality and time.teamorange wrote:

P.S. The SAT is really easy. The ACT is tougher.

You take SAT at grade 8 in the US?k30dxedle wrote:

I don't even know what they are, but don't you take them in grade 12, or college?
I'm In grade 9, in Canada, and haven't had one. I just have PAT, provincial achievement tests, in grades 3, 6, 9 and 12.
It was 25mins for the essay when I took it...jonsimon wrote:

Wasn't supposed to, it's usually supposed to be for high schoolers. Ask my parents and actually most parents of my friends, who seem to think that their kids have to be uber-special and go to MIT and Harvard in order to not become hobos and eventually die painful deaths from horrible diseases.Ryan wrote:

I think you can take them whenever, but most people take them junior year (11th grade).Ryan wrote:

34 on the ACT after an almost all nighter at a Screeching Weasel show. Remember kids, it's not so much how smart you are, as it's how well you've figured out how to take a standardized test.
The SAT is a standardized test offered to anyone who can pay the fee and show up to take it. It's generally taken in grade 10, 11, or 12, though. It currently contains only writing, english, and math sections. The ACT is a similar test but contains additional sections on social and natural sciences.Ryan wrote:

Psh, forget the SAT. How 'bout those SAT IIs?
A word of advice for anyone taking these tests: When you have your all-night study session the night before the test, never listen to the songs on Weebls Stuff. Really not conducive to your academic well-being.
As a result of this, my SAT II Chemistry score was in the 500s.

I think the SAT's going to be my only saving grace of getting into college.
I've only taken the PSAT (I'm a sophomore in high school) and I got a 1820 out of 2400. The letters and e-mails from colleges/universities/academies don't stop rolling in. Just today I got a letter from West Point (the amazing US military academy), no joke. If I had a scanner, I'd scan it in. It had a pic of some APC on the cover of the envelope. Pretty awesome stuff.
Standardized testing is pretty lame. We Floridians have the FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test) and it's utter bogus. FCAT says I get a 3/5 on the Reading portion (2 or lower means failing the grade), PSAT says 640/800. Much more reliable is the SAT.

I got a 1750 on the new SAT. I also took the ASVAB as I was joining the Marine Corps. I did amazing on that, a 92 out of 99.
I took the PSAT and got a 2160 out 2400 (actually, I believe it was 216 out of 240, but multiplying by 10 extrapolates to an SAT score, as you did)
Anyways, what did you put down on the test for your career interests, Havok? I am thinking colleges only send you letters if your interests are something they value, or are strong in. For example. I put down computer engineering, and have received letters from the four top Ivy engineering schools, as well as Cal Tech and another specialized engineering college. It would make sense if you put down something related to the military.

I put down Atmospheric Sciences because I wanted to be a meteorologist at the time I took the exam, but now I'm more interested in Computer Sciences. I get letters from everywhere, and none ever talk about Atmospheric Sciences. I think they just look at how high you scored.nukchebi0 wrote:

And I have an interesting story about Cal Tech. My friend's brother named Josh Wales got a perfect 1600 on the SAT. He applied to Cal Tech and got rejected. Don't get your hopes up if you plan to go there. That is a true story too.

Nice one Havok. I can't even go to a military academy because I'm not a fucking citizen. Guess I'm only good enough to be cannon fodder, not a commander eh?
34 ACT
I kept getting flyers from ALL kinds of colleges. I never did get one from the South Harmon Institute of Technology...very disappointing.

32 ACT, 1520 SAT.
...and yes, I took the SAT before they moved to the new 2400 grading scale.

Took ACT, no prep exams, got 27. Retook it, got 28. Was happy and stopped. Never took the SAT.
Edit: Oh, and I used a mechanical pencil I use papermate's clear point, it's pretty sweet... let me see if I can't find a picture...
It's nice: while 1 piece of graphite is loaded I put 4 in the chamber, so with 5 "sticks" I've never had an out-of-ammo situationn , and the long retractable eraser will last you a very decent while.
2nd Edit: oh yeah, the scantrons pick up the type of graphite it uses, so it's essentially the mechanical equivalent and actually better version of the no.2 wooden pencil.

Please, for the love of God, don't tell me we're going to get into a best tank/gun/jet debate about pencils. I will buy plane tickets and fly to the home of everyone that participates and kill each of them in their sleep.commandochristian wrote:

Im looking forward to it, I do well on all my tests, I just hate homework/things I have to work on at home so I end up getting a C average at the end(my school district is very homework centered).
