I prefer Titan commanding. Not only so do you get a total of 1540 points worth of badges, but you also get up your titan AA time, and in case you haven't realized, there are 2 badges (defend and attack) with 60 hours needed in titan mode. So while commanding titan you get:
- Titan Hours (MUCH more valuable that conquest hours);
- Over 2000 points worth of Titan Command Badges / Ribbons;
- AA Time;
- And lots more.
Titan = Win
I've got 22/25 kill streak
Kyle:
Your argument is only valid ! IF ! you need the attack/defend badges. I had my titan attack and defend badges before I even had 5 minutes of commanding...a potential commander shouldn't even click APPLY until he's put in time on the front line to learn the maps. AA time is nothing. Only takes 25 hours for silver; 50 for gold. I've had my Gold Titan Commander before the 25 hours required for AA. Now what? Waste another 25 boring hours of Titan Commanding to get the AA gold?
Plus, my Titan Commander SPMs have been lower than Conquest Commander SPM. Lower SPM mean LESS point value to your overall gaming time. Check your stats. I bet your Titan SPM is lower than your Conquest SPM. That makes sense. Why? Noobs. Before the Noobs get their panties in a bunch, let me explain...
Recall from BF2 days that a commander's score is based on a percentage of his team's individual scores. In any given game you can divide the players among three types of scoring styles: low, medium, high. The “high” scoring players (~20%) use their heads, understand advanced strategy, and know all the tricks for efficient scoring, namely teamwork (e.g. working in squads, capping flags, healing, reviving, resupply, defending, etc.). These are the guys with the multiple gold medals and KDR> 2 to 3. The “medium” scoring players (~50%) know SOME of the tricks, but still haven’t developed the technical skills. They’re good at teamwork points, but their KDRs are still average (~1 to 1.2) so their point base is lower.
The “low” scoring players (~30% aka Noobs) come in three categories: the Neophytes, the Mindless, and the Bored. The Neophytes are just learning to play so their “kill base points” are low, and are ignorant to the fact that Teamwork = Big Scores. The Mindless are content to play a sniper kit on a vehicle map and settle for 2 kills in 20 mins. The third category, The Bored, are tired of playing by the rules and are looking for ways to increase their interest in the game (finding glitches, tk-ing, kidnapping, badge time requirement banking while AFK, etc.). This is NOT a true Noob, but he’ll get called one anyway!
So how do the Noobs contribute to low Commander SPM? Easy. On a given team, Medium and Noob scoring is generally 80% of your team. No math degrees required to see that a bunch of ZERO scores quickly DECREASES the arithmetic mean of the teams score, and therefore the Commanders score.
Why is Titan mode more sensitive to Noob scoring?
1) Assuming a Noobs score is mostly attributed to the kills and not teamwork, they are going to get hammered during the first 15 mins of a 22 minute Titan map. They’re just too busy driving around, exploring, waiting for gunships, walking from one end of the map to another, to score.
2) After the shields go down, Noobs are the last to flock to the Titan Point Whore Fest. They’re already down to the last console, so they flood that corridor and grenade spam their way to TK Jackpot. Maybe they just continue to camp that silo waiting for a headshot or set up their sentry gun in the cargo bay and cross their fingers?
How does Noob scoring affect Conquest Commander SPM differently?
1) The maps are smaller and the combat is closer. The chance of getting killed by a Noob is exponentially greater. APCs, armor, and walkers (Noob staples) are more effective to camp chokepoints for easy kills.
2) The chances of a Noob picking up revive or resupply points from their errantly deployed packs are greater.
3) It’s more likely that a Noob will be revived than need to respawn and walk all the way from their last spawn point at the rear. More time on the battlefield is more potential scoring time.
4) The games are typically shorter, so the SPM is already higher.
