Yeah, I've been having a discussion with a friend of mine for about an hour. I am very con-smoking. I think it damages the society as much as it damages health, and every person I've heard talk about it (especially people who have been smoking for a long time) wishes he could stop. It's addictive, and usually begun by people who are either gullible, don't know better, or cave into peer pressure easily.

Your views?

voted yes. there is no benefit to it at all, and passive smokers have the full dosage, unfiltered. the strain on national health is absurd along with the ease of addiction compared to other drugs that are illegal. its simply available due to big business and government tax boost

I don't think it should be outlawed entirely, but indoors, yes.  California got it right.

I think it shouldn't be outlawed. Everyone has the right to do what they want, if they want to smoke let them, if they don't then they won't. There are ways to quit they just have to have the will power to quit. Oh yeah, I'm a non-smoker by the way.

Dez, how about the american freedom to protest, which you want to stop for those "god-damn hippies". dont give the bad freedom expression unless your willing to give it for everything. equally other people have a right not to breath in hundreds of cancerous chemicals.

ideals just dont stick in such arguments imo

Meh, when I post here I am usually talking about the UK. Anyway, I wish they would outlaw smoking here, or at least ban it from bars. With the amount of time I spend in bars, it must be like smoking a pack or two a week.

To anyone who said "free choice":
But then, if everyone has the choice, then shouldn't all drugs be legalized?

I'm happy with whats happening in the UK later this year where smoking is banned in public enclosed places but people are free to smoke outside, at home etc.

If people want to abuse their body they will but at least soon the rest of us wanting to go out for meal or go to a night club wont have to suffer the appalling smell and black gunk in the throat the next morning.

No, there are plenty of other things that are more harmful to society.  Hippies, gang bangers, Christian fundamentalists, Hillary Clintion...

Washington has a law that doesn't allow smoking indoors or within 25ft of an exit.  If we did ban smoking, the tobacco companies would have to be pulled down, and then there would be a huge gap in our economy.  Besides, smoking is our very own natural selection.  If you started smoking despite the obvious health risks, then your dumb as hell and deserve to suffer through lung cancer, emphazima, kemo-therapy and painful surgery just to die a couple of weeks later from it.

However, if you have been smoking for over 20 years, then no one really made a big deal out of it, so you had no way of knowing how damaging it was, so too bad.

As far as marijuana goes, I don't think anything that warps your perception at all should be legal.  No, not even booze.  Look at MOST of the drug busts that go on in the United States.  Most of them are found out when they're pulled over, in a car.  I've heard alot of you retards claiming that being high is okay, as long as you don't operate machinery or something.  Well you have no perception, whats stopping you from going out for a spin after a bowl?  Just your mind saying "No, thats a bad idea."  But wait, your baked.  Your going out anyway.  That being said, alcohol, and cannabis, should be made illegal, but I think it would be a bad idea.  Maybe the usage would go down if it was made legal, but I just don't see it happening.

Ever been high?

Not everyone is retarded that thinks being high is ok and guess what, some people don't even smoke it and think its ok. Weird shit huh? Until your robbed by a pothead, struck in a vehicle by a pothead, or shot by a pothead, lets assume all of them aren't retarded.

I've been high. And when you're high, you react like a retard, you make decisions like a retard, so essentially, you become one imo.
Yeah - I'm not that ignorant. I've tried tobacco, weed and alcohol. I just don't think it's good, and I think having tried them all gives me a slightly better insight.
The worst thing about them is that they're addictive...

I think it should stay how it has been in the good old days.

If a Bar owner wants to allow people to smoke in their pub/bar they should.Someone in my family owns a pub and now they can't allow smoking there, still i doubt she will really enforce it and kick people out.

If you don't like a bar with smoke in it you should go and find a no smoking one,it should be up to whoever owns it what happens inside.

I don't smoke,i have family that smoke and when i wen't on holiday to Ireland my family had to leave our meals and leave the pub every 30 minutes to go outside away from people to smoke.

I don't often post in this section but smoking is one of the few things i feel strongly about.

agree. If you want to smoke, suit yourself. You want to smoke cannabis, you should be allowed to. If you want to chop off your foot, do it. As long as you are not hurting someone else, its OK by me.
