I normally do not watch this show, but this was one hell of a segment.  He basically says radical muslims thrived in England because they believed they could do and preach whatever they wanted, as long as they did not attack anything in England (great policy guys).  He also said that muslims who be live their religion has not been corrupted with violence, are the same as alcoholics.

There is a short video link on the page as well.

Interesting...  I know I've been defending the freedom of speech in a different thread, but I'd also suggest that this freedom ends where people incite violence.  Burning a flag or effigy is one thing, but actually invoking violence and extreme hate among a group should always be illegal.

Perhaps, the U.K. should revise its own concept of freedom of speech.

I'm glad this Hassan guy mentioned the inherent violent streak of Islam.  Using the alcoholic analogy was pretty accurate.

"Do whatever you want, just don't blow US up."  Seems like I've seen that mindset somewhere in the US . . . hmmmm.  Which party could it be?  Hmmm.  Can't place it.

Gee.  An article about muslims and not the US has no discussion.  Who would have thought that?

I was trying to watch it but my wife kept switching the channel to some other dumb show, so I'd like to see the whole thing again.  Perhaps someone put it on youtube or something like that.

Yes, because articles which compare Muslims to addicts are clearly well thought out and scholarly.

Tell that to the muslim who was in charge of recruiting terrorists that, not me.

Shall I do that after I talk to the myriad of Christian leaders who've incited people to violence?

No.  You can talk about the subject for a change.

Right, because it's completely foolish to compare Islam to other religions before we declare it to be more violent .

I am more inclined to listen to someone who recruited terrorists and studied islam.  What the hell is your problem with this story?  Hit close to home?

What the hell does who you're inclined to listen to have anything to do with the basis for comparison?

And does this mean you're gonna join Al Qaeda, or just do as Bin Laden says from afar?

The story is not comparing religion.  It is talking about your peaceful religion.

Apart from the fact that I've never declared it to be peaceful (and the only people I've ever heard call it that are right wingers trying to be smart asses)...........................

Any term like peaceful or violent is relative.  That is, you have to compare it to something else to determine it.

The messed up thing about the story is the British governments policy that he talked about.

Okay, I'll read it properly later and we can discuss British policy.

One could also argue that Iran felt this way until we invaded a second country that bordered them.  Perhaps, they should have "pre-emptively" invaded Iraq before we did.

Perhaps they should have, they're loss.

You see what I'm getting at, right?

On the one hand, you're right that you have to be alert to extremist threats.  I think we all figured that one out after 9/11.

On the other hand, you shouldn't become paranoid either.  Paranoia seems to be the main reason we entered Iraq.  I don't think you can really argue against the idea that this whole operation has bit us on the ass, and we're bleeding billions of dollars into something that isn't really accomplishing much.
