I may have just registered on these forums today but i have been reading the topics in here for a while now. And the one thing that has annoyed me when i have been reading things here is the term "liberal". Coming for the UK where the term is not used that much and that i consider myself to be quite an extreme socialist, I in all fairness have no idea what so ever what Americans or other wise mean by a liberal.
So i pose to everyone can you people explain to me what a liberal is?
Anyone who believes in any form of healthcare or welfare benefits for the less fortunate members of society will usually be landed with that label in here. Of course they'll say these kind of schemes only encourage laziness and are there to be abused by people who aren't willing to go out and work hard for everything in this life. Most of these kind of threads usually end in extreme right wing Americans realising that there are actually many similarities between the European economic system and the US one, likewise many of us 'liberals' get to find out that the Americans actually have many of the same kinds of benefit schemes we have here.
Many people in here can't actually distinguish between Socialism and Communism.
