1. Prisoner exchange or demonstration of power
2. War
What else? There aren't many reasons a country willingly captures members of foreign armed forces.
God damn Fucking Iran is really starting to piss me off. It's like they just want attention.

Another straight ad hominem attack with nothing to back it up.Turquoise wrote:

you claim to live in the US, yet you sound french.
The Iranians are charging them with espionage, and may very well hang them.

Middle Eastern Politics are not like Western Politics. I am not claiming to understand the Iranian motives for this act but its possibly a Demonstration of Power, in the eyes of the Arab states.Spearhead wrote:

They arrest a group of British soldiers to ( in their eyes), demonstrate to the people that they are "not to be messed with", that they have stood up to the West. Brinksmanship is also a common ploy used by Middle Eastern states.
Similarly Nasser, in the 60's was seen as a hero even though his forces were essentially pushed back to Egypt. Its all about taking a stance against the invader, and their history is littered with such tales.
It may just be Middle Eastern spin doctoring and posturing, which is often quite alien to our own methods.
They will make their point and release them when its played out
Don't hate on the French, without them we wouldn't have delicious foods like lemon tart.. mmm...theelviscerator wrote:

Anyways if they do hang the soldiers they're likely to get an ass-whooping.
Ahmadinejad: This is madness!
Tony Blair: Madness? This is Britain!
Let's see... you made a broad ad hominem attack on the members of this forum with your initial remark without backing it up. So, now I can add "hypocrite" to the various labels that can apply to you.theelviscerator wrote:

Second, I find it ironic that you think I'm French. The French are actually a lot like us: they do crazy things without really considering the repercussions. Because of their individualism and their often foolhardy approach to foreign policy, you can essentially think of them as a much weaker version of the U.S. They'd likely behave just as arrogantly as we do, if they were the world's only remaining superpower.
I would agree with you at this point that Iran cannot be trusted and that they had better release those soldiers, but I attacked you because your posts usually smack of an ignorant arrogance that I find unbearably easy to disarm.
I know you're an easy target, so I'll try to hold back some....
Hey I'm American/French Turquoise and I think everything out..lol

Heh... I hope that last post wasn't too offensive... Admittedly, I love French women and French food.
I know what you mean about the girlfriend thing though... I could stand to be more careful about who I date as well... lol

If the sailors were in Iraqs waters, then surley that means Iran crossed into Iraqs waters?
Why has no one pointed this out?

"Where ya goin,' soldier? Return to the battle or you will be shot!" Guess I should be more serious, but it's still a video game forum.

Those waters have alway been disputed, Iran have said they were in Iranian waters and the British have said they were in Iraqi waters. Both sides are probably 'convinced' they're in the right.Dauntless wrote:

That old chestnut has been used for years ( Belgrano et al ) - there are no physical borders at sea and boundaries are disputed anyway so they will both claim to be correct but we will never really know
