Cam, you and I normally agree on things, but after seeing this happen, I have to wonder if the Iranian government really is as stupid and crazy as the neocons suggest they are.

I know the Iranian people generally lean in the reformist direction, but it looks like the hardliners have gone off the deep end.  From what I can tell, the forces that apprehended the British sailors were from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, which is like an independent armed force reporting directly to the Ayatollah.  I think Khamenei has gone truly insane.

Why in hell would Iran draw attention to itself so negatively right before some important U.N. talks?  Ahmadinejad looks like a fucking idiot right now, because he had to cancel his appearance to go back to Iran to deal with this.  This guy makes Bush look like Roosevelt.

The fact of the matter is this kind of action is the last thing Iran needs right before Ah'j speaks to the UN. They are already calling them a rogue division of the Iranian Navy. If they want to gain support for their Nuclear program they need to appear as if they are not hostile.

I strongly doubt Ahmadinejad has anything to do with this.  He is trying to look smart and confident before his speech at the UN, and this makes look him a bit dumb.

Why don't the Brits just get to the point and level Iran's military structures?

edit: The Iranian government's pretty screwed over if this doesn't go for the better.
