Well, it all depends on what you grow up with. It's one of those laws of economics: you will always want more than you have. If they get computers, they will eventually want more. I don't think they should die of Aids or anything, and I try to make myself conscious that other people live in worse conditions - but in the end effect, I have to say that (and you have to admit) it's quite depressing thinking about that the whole time. Of course, yes it sucks, but all you can do is hope their civilization improves. Maybe do a bit of charity - although that usually ends up doing the country more damage than good...

You think I like to see that shit serge?  I have seen it with my own eyes and it is beyond sad.  I knew the food and supplies we were helping deliver would be taken away from the children as soon as we left.  The only way to help would be a full scale invasion then occupy the place for many many years.  How many of your countries are up for that?  Ireland?  Sweden?  Canada?

I hear no volunteers.

Exactly, usmarine, it is beyond sad and the US gets criticized no matter what we do.  The sitation in Africa is not from a lack of effort on the part of more wealthy nations.  I do what I can by donating to organizations which bring the water cleaning technology to such countries.  That's something, but I don't think all the money in the world would solve the issues they have.  We can't keep funneling money and food when the money and food don't go to those who need it.

Edit:
I give my money to missionaries who directly transport the machines to the villages.  That way I know my money is achieving its intended purpose.

None of us here know what it is to live without clean water. Instead of accusing this of a retaliation thread, take a small step back and notice the things take we all take for granted, and not just the little ones.

What's to debate here? We should all be grateful of what we have by knowing that theres generally going to be people with a lot worse.

Retaliation thread?  I read National Geographic every day and I saw this and I thought we are lucky people.  Pure and simple.  Go find whatever you want.

I know you know it's sad, dude, and I swear I posted this coz I saw it this morning, and not coz you made that thread with an unhappy title.

You are free to do whatever you want.  It's not a guilt trip, just a reminder of how the small things we give for granted every day are big miracles for these people.

Just a little joke.  A very little joke.

For once I actually agree with you.  It absolutley boggles my mind how little some people have.

I spent a couple of years in Brazilian slums, and I couldnt believe how pathetic those people were.  They live charmed lives compared to the freaking Africans.  Poor buggers.

What he is saying is true, but like all liberals, he is only pointing out the truth for his own agenda.  He wants to prove someone else wrong (namely usmarine2007), not help anyone.  His thread is not quite as noble as it might seem.

To conjoin the two threads I would only say that Africans dont need playground toys, they like to play around with dead bodies.
