I was just wondering what type of training you guys (gals) get for one on one (hand to hand) combat?

Seriously, I think real hand to hand combat is very rare on the modern battlefields, so of you're not a member of the navy seals or similar there isn't any training like this.

Nah, there is hand-to-hand training. Know some people in the Norwegian army who regularily gets called to do it, and they're not special forces, nor enlisted.

It's mostly of the get-him-down-and-smash-his-neck kind, though. Nothing fancy.

The Marine Corps has a special blend of stuff that has been proven to work. It's meant to take your opponent down and neutralize them in as little time as possible. No fancy flips or kicks. You spend 2-3 days on Martial Arts, and then later you get to move on to Pugil Sticks (Think Giant Mean looking Q-tips)

Really? I know a few guys in the german army and never heard of any kind of hand-to-hand-training.

Well, on the other hand, I wouldn't consider the german "Bundeswehr" as an real army though...

When I was in the Meu every Company had to have a *L.I.N.E. instructor in it. We practiced twice a week for about an hour or so after PT. Its funny because I was actually quite good, but now that I havent really done it I have gotten quite horrible. I still got the muscle memory though so I guess in a pinch the Marine will come out and I will make the grass grow.

* Linear Infighting NeuroOveriding Engagement. (eg; pressure points on nerves, joints etc. A lot of finishing throat blows, arm hyperextending, grappling. It is really a scaled down version of MMA.)

they started the MCMAP when I was on my 2nd deployment and its sooooooo much better then LINE, its funny to look at both of them bc LINE seems so pathetic in comparison to MCMAP

MCMAP teaches you how to handle yourself better and ground techniques that LINE never touched

what I liked about MCMAP is that they took a combination of alot different styles and mixed them into 1 solid working program

he is referring to boot camp on 2-3 days, once you hit the fleet you spend a lot more time in MCMAP

Yes and no. You only learn like 4 things but you learn them really well. Besides that it just the intro, once you get to the fleet (your unit) you have to maintain that knowledge through regular practice. So its kind of like orientation at a job, you get the fly by night version in the beggining but then ojt keeps you proficient.

MCMAP is really good training, you learn alot, or least you did learn alot when i was in, but i was a grunt so it wasn't a choice. you learned how to do as much damage as possible in as little amount of time possible. break arms, knees, small joint manipulation, different kinds of air and blood chokes. it was amazing to find out how well that shit actually works, in training you go half speed, and get to tap out when it starts to hurt. but real life, you can fuck someone up pretty bad, and it's really quick.

Czechs have MUSADO, not bad but I don't really like it nor want to learn it. On academy in Latvia we had Kadachnikov, it is some kind of Russian fighting style where you use no power, only movements etc... pretty hurty to opponent

Camp Pendelton, CA. Camp Porno oops i mean Horno. for little bit, then when i went into the reserves i was in Saginaw, MI. btw, i fucking hated 29 stumps, that place kicked my ass almost as bad as bridgeport!!!

Hand to hand is the last resort. I did the standard H&H in the Army,nothing special (throwing and grips)
French Commando School was cool,taught you to kill people with knife,garrot,and hand.(fast,easy and efficient),
but not the best thing to use in a fight at the Disco.
I think the best Military H&H weapon is the Entrenching tool.
But my best advise is to keep the damn Weapon loaded and let the other fucker try H&H with ya. :-)

Found this also, US Marines - Martial Arts MCRP. Some really interesting stuff in there, goes very in depth.

Edit: Also noticed on the 2nd page of the pdf, in 2002, beginning of the 'war on terror', seems like public relations decided to change the wording 'close combat' to 'martial arts', silly PR people controlling everything..
