A full scale war between China and the US would go nuclear eventually, and China would (due to its size and population density) be so much more fucked than the US by a few nukes in the right places!

I agree, war will be economic.  Also political, and knowing the Chinese VERY VERY subtle and hidden.

However you cut it, the US still spends at least four times as much as the PRC on it's military. This isn't an arms race, this is the PRC very slowly catching up.

I had a Modern Studies teacher at College - brilliant guy, flew spitfires in WW2 and was an economist, so gave both sides of the political argument.
I always remember him saying that we should watch China, it could have ended the Vietnam War in a few days but did nothing ( some black market stuff but nothing military )
It struck a chord as he rarely speculated and seemed very sure - that was over 20 years ago so guess it was foresight
