Although this is a bit of a grey area since I'm not sure if technically it is child abuse or not, she is definitely playing a major role in sending this kid to an early grave.

Can't remember what it's called but there's a tv program in the UK where they get parents of problem children who won't behave properly and only eat junk food to look at pictures of what their kids are estimated to look like at 30 or 40 if they don't start living healthily.  The pics always make them look like the kind of thugs who rob the post office.

The woman on the program gives them a list of guidelines and after 2 weeks they do another analysis and show another pic based on what the kids would look like if they stuck to the plan as much as they had been.  The parents are often cause the problems by not setting a good example, backing down when the kids act up and bribing them with as much tv/sweets/candy as they want to leave them alone.

Basically the mother is over loving her child. Giving him everything he wants, wanting to make him happy at all costs. She hasn't grasped that part of parent hood is denial and discipline, for parent and child. If she can't sort that in her own head, then the kid, for his own good needs to be taken into care.

You two are judging that mother too fast. For an 8 year old to weight over 200 pounds it is obviously more than a diet. It has already been proven that there are genetic factors involving obesity. That kid needs special treatment, and only if the mother is refusing to allow her son treatment, then it would be the case.

In any case, the authorities should go to the extreme measure of taking custody of the kid if necessary. He is in a death sentence. A slow and sad death sentence that will kill him before he's 30, maybe 20, if he stays on that course.

I think the state is trying to take him because there the UK lost there Sumo skills a long time ago.. And they can make him fater then before, but in all seriousness they shouldn't take him away. They should enroll him in physical activities like running..
