Sounds like the Jehovah's Witnesses but I've never encountered them so I don't know how they go about doing it

Are you suggesting that 98% of the people in Iran and Saudi need structure in their lives and only 3% of Americans do?

I think it would be cool if a Hindu came to my house to convert me.  That is a cool religion with lots of stories, kinda like Greek Theology.

I don't like the idea of any religion going door to door trying to recruit/convert anyone.  I own a home and we regularly get Jehovah's Witnesses, and sometimes even the Mormons riding around with their white shirts and ties will stop and talk to you when you are working in your yard.

Maybe local religious leaders should setup a convention or something... "Seeking something higher in your life?  Come on out to the religion expo this weekend."  They could setup tests, to see what type of personality you have, and what you are seeking.  Then produce a list of up to 10 religions based on that.  You know, give everyone a chance to get the facts about a religion before they commit to it.  But make it a neutral ground (we'll of course have to set some displays on separate sides of the room from others), pamphlets, knowledable representatives.

I personally am Episcopal/Protestant/Anglican (yeah you know the homo-phobes [but not me]), I don't feel the urge to force my religion on anybody.  It just fits my personality, I like the structure of the service, it appeals to my obsessive compulsive nature.  It may not be the best religion, but it's the best religion for me!

Catholic Christian: Convert to our religion or we will abuse of your kids.
Jewish: Convert to our religion or we will settle in your yard.
Muslim: Convert to our religion or we will call for a jihad.
Hindu: Convert to our religion or we will give you bad karma.

I also have had Jehova's Witnesses at my door a couple of times. I am a convinced atheist but did still invite them for a theological discussion on two occasions. I simply asked them for hard evidence on their beliefs and if they could provide it i would consider their religion. As a result I'm even more of a atheist to this day.

I think the missionaries were successful simply because people were uneducated back then.

Honestly I'm surprised you managed to exclude Buddhist from the list of persons to come and "convert"


Islam -- The original post framed the entire situation from the get go.  What would "they" say to convert you to "Islam (peace)" -- you cannot convert people to peace....its something that will naturally happen hence its a hard thing to evangelize.


Hinduism-- well this would be a fun experience in terms of content.....it never gets old really.

Christianity -- judging by the frequency that they have actually managed to make it to my door -- the overall message -- your buddy jesus can help you if you drop everything on him. Hard to disagree with something like this cause i know my ego can't handle all of its burden

Jewish -- to be very honest -- I've yet to see a Jew evangelizing so I'm not sure how this would work out.

Buhddism -- Manjushri Bodhisattva would probably help you realize what it means to be void.

i wish they would come to my door.....i wouldnt want to feel left out.

He doesn't want to hear from some certain Irish members on this forum. Either that, or he is a nativist from the 1840s upset by the influx of poor Irish and German Catholic immigrants who are against his ideology of temperance with all their drinking and such.

Someone should explain to him that this is a discussion forum and not a unilateral platform for racist opinions. If he doesn't want replies from certain races why doesn't he post on one of his Klan sites?

I think they recruit with leaflets, videos, stories and so on. Convincing people is tough I guess.

I'm an atheist, but assuming I was one of those religions I'd point out those aspects of my relgion which I think would appeal to those I'm trying to convert.

The last time JWs tried to convert me I succeeded in converting them from MS office to OpenOffice
