Another question then would private citizens with the right to bear arms prevent crime? Just look at the murder and crime rate in the US.
I would love to own guns but I don't want them in the wrong hands.
Read the Armed Citizen section in the NRA magazine. Every month they have that section and it shows a snapshot of law-abiding preventing crime and not even being injured because they had the means to defend themselves and others. Many of them are senior citizens who are at home alone. They would be very vulnerable without a firearm to protect themselves. Same goes for ladies. They can't be expected to fend off a man, but a woman with a gun would scare the crap out of a criminal. I've taught my wife how to shoot and I'm confident she could easily defend herself in the home. Otherwise, what's she supposed to do? Call the police? Please, they'll just take down the report after she's been raped or killed. There are quick access safes that work very effectively to keep guns locked up, but quickly accessible to the owner. That way, your gun will not get into the wrong hands.
Guns that criminals obtain are coming from their sources on the street, not from all the homeowners guns they've taken. If people think that I shouldn't have a gun because a criminal could take it from me and shoot me, then by that logic, police shouldn't have guns. We hear about deputies dying to their own guns quite often.

To obtain a ConcealedCarryPermit in most US states, you must attend classes and prove proficiency with your firearm and then pay the fee. CCP holders are held to a higher standard if they do shoot someone because they've had the training on when to use their weapon. No CCP holder is going to go around randomly shooting people that make them mad like you say you would. The CCP holders I've spoken to are more self-controlled because they know they're carrying a deadly weapon.
