ok, I personally think that it's mostly fair. just as long as they have access to food meting standards ( but not better than they get at home), and access to lawyers, why shouldn't they? people seem to forget that only US citizens have all the rights afforded under the US constitution, and illegals have basically none. yet peopel seem to want them to be treated like citizens. just give them phones thta are connected to local immigration lawyers, and leave it at that.
Because they weren't even supposed to be in the US in the first place...
I meant, why shouldn't they be in the prison, not why shouldn't they be given food and access to lawyers.
volitile_squirrel, illegal mexicans are deported straight away, no detention centers.
as for my opinion of what the US should do ( I admit I do not live in the US, but bear with me)
1. allow border agents to discharge their weapon to stop ANY attempted use of deadly force on them. knives, slings, whatever, as long as it is strictly self-defence. and only if there is indeed a threat to their life.
2. sort out proper detention, but not for years. haul them in front of a judge as soon as possible, then keep them in the detention center until their turn comes up for a flight home (as in, if there are no people from their country in a backlog, they have to wait until the backlog is cleared, then get a seat on a plane or boat or whatever) then they are escorted to the airport/port/border and onto whatever mode of transport they have been granted a seat upon ( they don't have a choice, unless there are compelling MEDICAL reasons for it) then are under guard until it is time to go, and the way out is guarded until the plane/boat/bus/whatever has actually left.
3. second time they come in illegally, shove them in jail, deporting at the end of their sentance.
4. remove restrictions on coming in LEGALLY f you have been in illegally. that will just encourage them to come in illegally.
that should discourage people from coming in illegally, and encorage legal immigration.
