Yes, you have to play on ranked servers to gather points for your profile to rank up and get unlocks. Don´t worry if your stats don´t update directly after a match in BFHQ as sometimes it can take up to 24h for an update.

You have to at least have a Global Score of 100, to view your stats here at BF2s.com.
However, the stats feed at EA is broke, and things aren't working properly. You'll have to be patient, until it's fixed.
