Used to use Norton - it blows and hogs resource

I use CA Security Centre now - 1 year free and much less of a resource whore

Not had 1 problem with it
QFT Any CA product is good. I use their eTrust AV and Personal Firewall. I get it free from my ISP, much better than Norton and I've never ever had a problem with it in over 1.5 years of use.

Why did you lump Norton and MacAfee together?

I have BullGuard. It seems to do the trick but I'm not too hot in my knowledge of AV's, so I'm not sure how good it is compared to the rest.  Anyone more knowledgeable than me in AV's care to enlighten me??
Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.

because they are the 2 biggest and probably well known AV makers... .and i wasnt intrested in downloading any of them.

I was just wondering how many people actually rated the "top 2".

Again, AVG seems to blow the big one, so, what's the next best free one?

Why is Check Point's ZoneAlarm not on there?

It has like, everything to stop anything, AD stopper, anti junk mail, IM security, Alert Logs, Firewall, Program Control, Anti-Virus, Anti Spyware. Probably some more things I'm missing.

I see AVG is winning, mainly because it is free and works.

However, the OP asked what is the best AV, and independent tests show that Nod32 is the best with detection rates, with Kaspersky close behind.

if you BUY the full version of AVG it is a lot better. i agree that the free version of AVG is not too good.

From your recommendations.....

I have heard that NOD32 is hard to use, and the GUI is crap.

I did try kasperky before AVG, as a tempory fix after i uninstalled Mcafee, but you have to pay?  I could not find a free one. I will look at buying in in a short while after the rest of the computers (3) that use mcafee fuck up (which wont take long)
