Monitor: Now open to all ideas, as my choice seems to have been a very poor one..

Okay, well seems theres a lot more to this than i first anticipated, i'll Karma anyone who finds me a monitor with the following specs:

under £300
20" inch Or over...
preferably 5ms response
Mainly purchasable from UK is what I'm looking for
Only first-hand monitors, so no 2nd hand on e-bay etc.
And i would preferably like a sleek shiny black style one smile

P.s I'm very open with karma, and will karma most of the posters in this topic later when i've finished work.

And this Keyboard:
Logitech G11.

I was going to buy the G15, but you pay £20 more for a little LCD screen that isn't compatible with any of the games i play.
Budget for keyboard is £50 if suggesting anything else.

I'm happy with my G11, it's a good choice if you don't want or need the LCD screen.

That monitor is horrendously overpriced. Don't buy stuff from PC World.

What about this monitor:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu … =MO-006-BE

£20 over budget, but an extra 3"s of joy.

That looks good, I'm willing too pay extra for the 1000:1 ratio and extra inches.. the only thing that puts me of is the integrated speakers.

Don't use them. You don't have to. I've got integrated speakers on my monitor and I don't even notice they're there, I just use my Z-5400s instead.

You also get much nicer resolutions on it.

I was just thinking seeing as I'm going slightly over budget i would rather not pay for accessories that wouldn't be used

Please contribute as much input as possible for the screen, I'm no wiz at monitors, but i know many of you lot are .

I don't know much about hardware but I was told 19" monitors are kind of a waste, to get the most out of your pixels you should get a 17" or 20" since 19" monitors use the same resolution as 17" (that means it wouldn't be as sharp)

G15  doesnt support BF2   but the clock and performance LCD screens are still useful

I wouldn't worry about that. They won't be affecting the price of the monitor (well, maybe by £2-3). It's a much better deal than that Phillips one. Maxdata/Belinea are very good at making monitors as well.

Any monitor that has a 5ms response time or lower. For a keyboard I highly recommend the Saitek Eclipse or Eclipse II. Simply outstanding keyboards without all the useless shit Logitech puts on theirs.

i just bought the LG 19" widescreen model, #146 inc shipping from scan.co.uk,

2000:1 ratio, 5ms, its the dogs peanuts ! native rez is 1440x900, so whoever said 19's use same rez as 17's is talking out their ass !

No they're not. You're just running a widescreen native res. Typical res for a 17" is 1240x1024, same as a 19".
Typical widescreen res for a 19" is 1440x900, which is different to 17" widescreen models.

If going for a widescreen monitor (and they are a lot nicer to use) you really want a resolution of 1680x1050 (1920x1200 can be a bit high, difficult to run stuff natively if you don't have a G80 or suchlike, but if you've got the cash....).

Not natively but there's countless applets to make it support BF2.

Widescreen is good for gaming. You need to tweak your games a bit, but thats ok. It's also exceptionally useful for doing normal stuff, the extra desktop width is great.

This one's pretty nice. 6ms, but are you really going to notice 1ms difference? I can't tell the difference past 8ms.

or this:

Although I still think the 1st one I suggested is the best of the bunch.

Not really. No point in getting an ultra high res 24" with that GPU, but that's way out of your price range anyway.

Other than the back-lit keys I can't see a point buying a G11, it's the same keyboard as every other keyboard they make, I used to use a cheapo £10 logitech keyboard, and was quite surprised when i used a mates G15 that is was the same keys and the same membrane underneath.

If you're going for a gaming grade keyboard get a Razer Tarantula or a Raptor (neither in your budget unfortunately).
