It might be stretching the term a bit to call Jesus a politician, however liberal he may have been.

Very good point...  I'm not against studying the Bible for the appropriate classes -- I'm only against proselytizing...

How come he wasn't a politician?  Wasn't Gandhi one?  What's the difference between them?  Jesus was a politician without doubt.  How do you call a guy who controls a huge number of followers and talks about politics?  Besides, maybe there were other liberals before, but in this socialist way he was the first I can think of.

Having only read the title I can say this: Call him what you will, but one thing is for sure. He was not the first. There were others thousands of years before him.

Famous as him?  Persons that influenced future generations like him?

Yep... essentially Jesus didn't bring anything new. His preaching is a selection of things previously expressed by others.

Well, as I've said earlier, I'd call him an activist.

Exactly what office was he running for? Having followers and preaching don't necessarily make you a politician, its more like a prophet...

So if you have views on politcal issuse it makes you a politician? No, Jesus was not a politician. A lot of his views are generally ignored by conservatives today however.

You don't need to run for any office to be a politician.  He was in politics without doubt.

No, but if you express your views to a huge number of persons and you get the attention of the emperor of Rome, then you are kinda a politician.  Jesus spent most of his time debating public officials who were not only the religious leaders of the Jewish people, but their political leaders as well.

No, I don't think so. A large number of people followed him, that makes him a leader, but not a politician. That this atracted the emperor's attention is mere consequence. Actually, not that many politicians have the leader capabilities that Jesus had, if any at all...

Saying that's how he spent most of his time is a big overstatement. But even so, debating people of political influence does not make you a politician either. Any voter can do that, and he'd still be a just voter.

His spirit must've lived on into Karl Marx (j/k)

But seriously, if 100 percent of Christians actually lived by what Jesus taught, I'd say our country would be pretty screwed.  Not to mention the Army would be disbanded.
