So I know there are probably many math geeks among the super-cool video game players here at BF2s. So lets tell the world about some very very odd things in math! Math FTW!
Anyway, so did you know that .999 repeating = 1? No rounding involved.
Here's the proof-
.9999 r. = x
9.999 r. = 10x
-x             -x
9 = 9x
1=x!

And.....

e = 2.71828183...
pi = 3.14195....
i = an imaginary number

e^pi x i = -1

an irrational number raised to the irrational number x an imaginary number power = -1? YES! And this is the basis for lots of engineering. I am afraid to go on a bridge now .

And if you can figure how this is wrong then you get karma! Yay:

x = y
x^2 = xy
x^2 - y^2 = xy - y^2
(x-y)(x+y) = y(x-y)
-------------   --------
(x-y)              (x-y)

x+y = y

if x =1 and y = 1 then 1 + 1 = 1

Yay!

That's very interesting! 7 is another cool  number to find wierdness with. I can't remember all the things seven is cool for, but maybe someone else here does.

Why don't you be an asshole about it while you're at it?

4 squared + 3 squared = x squared

16 + 9 = x squared

25 = x squared

sqaure root of 25 = x

5 = x

But maybe by some wierd forec of the universe the false is actually true, and the true is instead false!

nope. But I did do it wrong. It should be read as  xy - y^2 . Fixed.

really?
my calculations say no.

so you have

.99999r = x

you mulitply both sides by 10.

9.99999r = 10x

you subtract both sides by x.

9.9999r - x = 10x-x

9.9999r - x = 9x

9.999r = 10x.

x = 9.9999r/10= .999999r

you get nowhere. unless you can prove me wrong, i fail to see how this makes any sense.

if x = .9999r, then it equal .9999r. i don't see how you can manipulate this equation to make it anything different. if you do something to one side, you must do it to the other.

x = .9999 r so 9.9999r - .99999r = 9. Done.

ahh, but he didn't state the rounding and such as he was doing this. HIS method doesn't make sense, the thread that you referenced does.

and i'm not ruining the thread, i worked it out, and stated my answer. i wasn't looking to start trouble.

and from a practicality standpoint, .99999999999r is going to be so infinitely small away from 1, that you wouldn't be able to measure this value anyway. the tolerances in the equipment would cause error before you could read this value anyway. so essentially, .99999r does equal 1.

And to put it straight for good: 0.999~=1 in math, no rounding needed
