In all honesty, exercise is the surest way to feel tired enough to sleep well.

That being said, I should do more of that myself....

that works well.
i personally go for the lazier approach.
take two tylenol PMs, then eat something. or eat something then take the pills whatevers clever.....now this is the important part so pay attention: literally smoke yourself into a coma.
problem solved.

Dont use the computer at least 1.5 hours before bed. games especially.
No caffine or sugary stuff after 6pm
Dont go to be unless you are tired.
If you are not alseep within 15 mins of going to bed, get up.
Keep your room cool, dark and quiet
Watch some tv before bed
Hot milk.
Knocking one out before bed helps me sleep too

^ What he said!  Just make sure you keep a load rag beside the bed (or lick your wrist clean) so you can fall asleep straight away and not have to worry about cleaning up.

Avoid most games (adventure/mystery is fine) before bed, and don't get caught up in a debate on this forum. Watch a bit of a movie, or listen to part of an audio book. Read a bit to wear your eyes out. Get in some daily exercise to wear you out in the evening.

It's 3 AM here, so I guess I'm not following some of my own advice.

I had extreme insomnia for a while and apparantly exercise only makes you more alert if you are trying to get to sleep. Everyone has there own triggers for sleep, I find music helped me alot.

Exercise earlier. Getting pumped up before bed generally keeps you awake. If all else fails, enlist and go through boot camp. I can just about guarantee sleep (or what little of it's allowed), even while standing up. Silly military and their 'ja we are da supermen' philosophy on sleep requirements.

What he said, works for me. A treat. Best class is physics. Might explain the complaints from my teachers about lazyness but who cares.

That said, I'm an insomniac who will go two to three days with about an hour or two of sleep and then crash on the weekends...

EDIT

Oh, the insomnia runs in my family... It comes and goes in cycles. Doing an exam after a week with only 3 hours sleep is not recommended.

I developed insomnia after a few years in the infantry. Now that I am a nasty civilian the one thing that never, ever fails is a glass of red wine about an hour before you want to go to sleep. Works every time and is good for your heart.

Before taking this, ask your doctor, but Clonazepam (Rivotril) in 05, mg would help a lot.

Vicodin seems to work well for me. Muscle relaxers weren't as fun.
