The global transition from ice age to greenhouse 300 million years ago was marked by repeated dips and rises in the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and wild swings in temperature, with drastic effects on forests and vegetation, the researchers reported in the journal Science.

Yeah I remember that.  About 300 million years ago I was walking through Kentucky and I noticed the carbon dioxide screwing with the vegetation.

These sceintists are so damn looney they think they "know" what was going on 300 million years ago just because of some plant fossils in a few areas.  phhhtt, talk about making up history and calling theroy fact.

Obviously they didn't talk to Al Gore because if they did they would know it was caused by the Republican controlled congress 300 million years ago.

I am sorely tempted here to say 'shut up about things you have no clue about'...

You have no idea about the process involved, and therefore shouldn't comment until you do some research on the topic.

Pretty ironic the first thing I read this morning was
RECORDS SMASHED: 70 DEGREE SATURDAY IN CENTRAL PARK (Drudge)
With Temperatures Above Normal For 28th Straight Day, Many Ski Resorts Remain Closed
"I've been here for 32 years and this is the worst winter I've ever seen," he told WCBSTV.com. "I had three-day packages for New Year's Eve and in my main building every single room canceled."

and the first topic I read was this here.

What I don't get is: Even if we're WRONG about global warming being the sole reason of humans...why keep putting as much Carbon Dioxide into the air as we are? Why not worry about it?

Why keep making it worse and screwing up the "natural" habit? Wasting tax payer dollars? Nah. I'd say the Iraq war does that best.

If people moan so much about too much CO2 in the air, then why dont we replant tree's ?

They're the ones who use it and prouce oxygen.

Read the article, there is a lot of theory involved.  Do you really think they know why levels were rising and falling.  Hell, it could have been volcanic activity, meteorites, dinosaur sex, solar flares......

You really fuckin think they can determine rises of 200ppm in 50 year periods and shit like they are comparing it too today.  Hell how long has data been gathered in recent history to make this silly as deduction that: OMG the same thing is happening today that happened 300 million years ago.

Article"The scientists studied the late Paleozoic period, between 305 million and 265 million years ago, when Earth was far different. Land masses were gridlocked in a single super-continent largely sheathed in ice. Shallow seas regularly rose and fell. The sun was weaker. The atmosphere's chemistry was different."

Most CO2 is converted by algae and the article states current CO2 at around 380ppm but gives no baseline for "normal CO2" levels.  You know fucking why?  Because their is no fucking baseline because it hasn't been tracked long enough.    1000-2000ppm may have been the norm for this planet while life was developing.  Hell of a lot more ocean and algae now than the period they are talking about.  How much CO2 can be trapped in frozen ice?  Use your brain for something.  This is drivebye science.

You have no common sense, this article is obviously trying to make news and not report it.  Now go back to sitting on your thumb and surfing porn.

Major Spittle you really don't know what you are talking about.

Yes, scientists can use ice cores to very precisely measure the amounts of different gases in the atmosphere, they can follow history back in different ice shelves with thousands of different ice cores. There are small bubbles of air trapped in the ice that the scientists can examine for different greenhouse gases etc.

From wiki: "Because water molecules containing heavier isotopes exhibit a lower vapor pressure, when the temperature falls, the heavier water molecules will condense faster than the normal water molecules. The relative concentrations of the heavier isotopes in the condensate indicate the temperature of condensation at the time, allowing for ice cores to be used in global temperature reconstruction. In addition to the isotope concentration, the air bubbles trapped in the ice cores allow for measurement of the atmospheric concentrations of trace gases, including greenhouse gases carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. The air bubbles may also contain traces of aerosols, which are produced in great concentrations during volcanic eruptions. "

This is the picture that says it all:

Hundreds of different sources have come the same conclusion: CO2 and Temperature levels are directly related, and CO2 is at the highest point it has been at in over a million years.

The kind of news that is misleading people like you Spittle are people who get their news from Fox. It may sound like I wear a tin foil hat but: big oil pays to keep global warming quiet.

Global warming is just a theory. Just some crap made up. And now everything is due to global warming, the northeast hasnt had a drop of snow and they were saying it was due to global warming but ya know what, its not, its the freaking el nino. But no, the liberals cant except that it might just be MOTHER NATURE because they cant BLAME GEORGE BUSH for mother nature.

You all should read "State of Fear" by Michael Crichton.  Yes it's a work of fiction, but he does a lot of research before writing his novels.  He states a lot of the stuff your all quoting here, and he even has footnotes and he lists all his sources in the end.  Good read, interesting story and you actually learn a lot about "global warming".

Humans are responsible for only about 5 % of co2. The problem is we underestimate what 5 percent can do.

Did you know that we are currently in an Ice Age?  An Ice Age is define as anytime the Earth has Polar ice caps (which is exactly what we are trying save).  So next time you talk the environment, see how many of your Green Peace friends know that....

"More colloquially, when speaking of the last few million years, ice age is used to refer to colder periods with extensive ice sheets over the North American and Eurasian continents: in this sense, the last ice age ended about 10,000 years ago."

You're splitting hairs, mate, but I understand what you mean.  Too many so-called environmentalists are ignorant of their own cause.  That seems to be true of a large portion of just about every activist group though.

Funny, when scientists make atomic bombs, discover relativity, clone animals, genetic engineer living organisms and put people on the moon they are geniuses. But when they warn that something could be wrong with the amount of pollution were making they are called loonies...
