Which is why we should put them on a ship in the middle of the sea, place them at the end of the plank with a cheetah between them and the inside of the ship. If they fall in the water and cannot swim to safety a thousand miles away (hey, God made the oceans so big) they drown and we never touched them. In the spirit of Ricky Bobby, I say we name the cheetah Karen.

If we sentence someone innocent to death, then someone, the judge, jury etc, are directly or indirectly guilty of murder themselves?

Now now Lowing, dont do Gods work. I dont want to have to become a flaming leftist to save your life when you go on death row. And I surely dont want to pay your cable bill for your cell while you appeal your sentence for 15 + years.

As long as the gym stays open until late, along with the cafeteria, and the library I am a bit of a night owl and I like to snack late at night after my work out, and cuddle up to a good book, after I watch some HBO and Showtime. It is after all, when they show all the nudity. I am sure I would get lonely in between my conjugal visits with my wife. There would still be plenty of time left to reflect on my crimes though, in between morning breakfast, and my hot shower I would think.

I agree that they must be punished. I don't agree with execution but I certainly don't agree with treating them like errant children - they need to pay for their crime.

Well lets see, we can't kill them, and if they get so much as cold coffee in the morning some liberal asshole lawyer out there will be screaming on his behalf CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT.... Probably from the ACLU.

don't believe me??? taken from http://www.cse.org/newsroom/press_templ … s%20id=287

An inmate filed a $5 million lawsuit against himself, claiming that he had violated his own civil rights by getting arrested, then asked the state to pay the $5 million since he is a “ward of the state.”

In Texas two inmates have filed six lawsuits each to complain about such issues as the prison mail service, the quality of the meal service, denial of dessert while on administrative segregation, and alleged medical injuries caused by being forced to carry his own property.

A Mississippi prisoner sued for not receiving his scheduled parole hearing, even though he had escaped and was out when the hearing was held.

In Connecticut a prisoner sued the state for $20,000 for pain and suffering because he cut his hand on barbed wire while trying to escape from jail.

A Florida prisoner sued in an effort to force prison officials to outfit him in Addidas, Reeboks, Ponys or Avai high tops rather than the sneakers issued by the prison.

In New York a prisoner sued for $15 million, claiming the Department of Motor Vehicles forced him into a life of crime by denying him a driver’s license.

A Florida prisoner sued to force prison officials to serve him three pancakes, instead of two, at breakfast.

A convicted drug dealer in New York sued for $2.5 million claiming his throat hurt after eating a prison-issued orange.

A death row prisoner sued corrections officials for taking away his Gameboy electronic game.

An inmate in Nebraska sued after officials ordered him to pick up a hamburger bun he dropped. The inmate claimed that this was a “work assignment” and he was prevented from working because of a medical condition.

Now, you liberals wanna talk about wasted govt. money that COULD be used to help the poor and disadvantaged??? How about we start by saving some of it right here?

Why is it that people like the death sentence, want to be able to use lethal force to defend themselves or whatever but get ants in their pants when someone who's about to die is abused a little?

In places around the world, the death sentence is a legal form of punishment whereby someone that has been tried and convicted of a major crime (multiple murders, genocide, etc.) has their life terminated.  In parts of America there is wrangling going on about whether lethal injection is acceptable because the convict may suffer a bit.  In Iraq, there's consternation because Saddam Hussein was heckled whilst on the gallows.

So what?  At the end of the day, the person is a convicted criminal and is being put to death.  It's not supposed to be a pleasure cruise, it's a punishment.  The ultimate punishment.
Saves a lot on your tax dollars.
That is true... but punishing murder with murder is hypocritical.

Some of them get deleted without notice lately. I understand closing them, but last night we had a global warming discussion that went on for 5 pages before it just disappeared.

They black-bagged the topic, just like in V for Vendetta =o

Death penalty should only be done in 100% guilty cases of the most heinous of crimes. If my family was kidnapped, raped, tortured, then slowly and painfully killed, I'd like to see the asshole dead. None of this stay-cozy-in-prison shit (yeah I know prison isn't all fun and games), only prison I'd want them in is a SuperMax which I hear are absolute hell. If not a SuperMax, just kill him. Fuck I'd kill the guy myself. If all signs point to "This fucker did it", I'll grab the court security guy's pistol and put a few bullets in the guy's head. No bullshit money wasted on bullshit appeals, and keeping the guy alive for 30 fucking years before he's actually killed.

It´s a tough call for me.. Looking at serial-killers such as Jeffery Dahmer i can´t see how you wanna keep a guy like that alive. Do you wan´t to give him another chance? maybe he hooks up with your daughter..

And the other option to lock them in prison for the rest of their life, i don´t want to pay for his food.

But i have´nt made up my mind yet if i´m all Texas crazy and wants to execute everyone and everything or let em rot in a cell.

An observation: It seems like most of the supporters of the death sentence say that they would kill whoever murdered their family. Does that not mean that you would be guilty of murder, and subjected to the death sentence? Food for thought.

Nope, because the "murderer" got what his victim didn't, a chance, a day in court, and due process. All that is left is for someone to speak for the victim that can no longer speak for themself. That victim deserves justice, revenge, vengance, payback.whatever you wanna call it. The victim has EARNED it.

You have a point, though that seems like a romanticized vision of the American justice system. There are many mistakes made in court, and many guilty men walk free while innocent men sit behind bars, or worse. Recently in Chicago (where I live) there was a man who faced the death penalty and was killed in the early 70s. He was pardoned posthumously for his crimes. How much is that worth to him? How much is that worth to the family?

You are very very correct. I think when it is all done and said, we have to bow to the fact that there is no system that is perfect. Our system does not take CP lightly, which is why it takes 10, 15, 20 years or better to go through the appeals process. As forensics technology improves I think there will be less chance of the innocent sent to prison. As it is, we hold to a very strict standard as far as who is sent to death row. A credit to our vigilance to strive for perfection in this issue.

Kinda funny, how we see eye to eye, yet totally disagree. I think that no matter how far forensics technology (or any other technology for that matter) advances, there will still be glitches. At least one person will get fucked by the system. That one person matters to me. Sure it's a miniscule statistic, but it's a life. Imagine if that one person was you. Or your father. Or your brother. Or your son. Or your wife.

What the fuck?

So you think that convicted child rapists shouldn't be put to death? You would rather have them spend the rest of their life in prison where they cost YOU and every other American tax payer $20,000 annually PER inmate?? You're basically saying that you would rather your tax money went to murderers, rapists, molesters, and pure scum... as opposed to that tax money maybe going towards the educations of your kids, scholarships, health programs, or something else to better your life in this country?
